The release is a tribute to the class 90’s hip-hop sound with it’s big rumbling kicks, dusty horn and piano samples and rumbling bass. Crooks and Lowdown are definitely the heftier tracks on the EP, the likes of which we haven’t seen from Saine in a couple of years at least. Our premiere track Cherish is just a bit lighter with its mellower, trippy horns, jovial melodies and easy-going percussion. This friends, is vintage Saine. The final track on the EP, Finesse, is perfectly titled and would have found a good home on his beat tape last year (those strings though wow!).

Fear not wax collectors as this is not it for Saine this year, he’s got something else coming out soon. Needless to say, we all know what 2020 has been like for musicians. Sable Blanc is releasing his debut full-length album, “Homecoming”, on Salin Records, also a first for the label itself. Originally slated to be an EP of tracks corresponding to memories of a recent trip to New York, the idea grew into a full-fledged LP as work began. “Homecoming” alludes to returning to New York, a place where the producer spent several years living and forming memories in his teens. Inspired by the colours, energy and peace of the city, Sable Blanc also chose photos taken by his friend that inspired each of the tracks on the album. Salin’s very own Daria Salin then took the photos, developed them as cyanotype (an analogue development technique, same as on the album cover itself) and created a booklet, a special additional feature to the album.

Musically, the album shows a developing maturity in Sable Blanc’s work. Expanding his range to a variety of styles and incorporating new techniques from various genres, the album really is meant to be taken in as one whole listening experience. Today however, we’re premiering just one track off the album, Limo & Theatre. Teaming up with trumpet player Reuben Lewis (you may have heard some of his work via Loure’s output or Australia’s 30/70 collective), together they deliver a laid-back, jazzy tune meant to be taken in within a relaxing environment. Nestled among the crispy drums and alluring trumpets are some breezy and carefree keys that really help to transport your mind on a journey. We can see this one being taken in with headphones, sitting in a high-rise while watching the life on busy streets of New York buzz by down below.

Limo & Theatre isn’t the only superb track on the album. There are influences ranging from drum and bass to ambient on the record so be sure to grab your copy and sit down with a copy of the photo pamphlet and take it all in as it’s meant to be. Jazzy Sport, the long standing, popular record shop and label from Tokyo, Japan is preparing its next record for release. The label focuses on a fusion of soul, jazz and hip-hop, oftentimes in a house-y direction, as is the case with the newest double LP to hit their catalogue. Kid Sublime is the man at the helm of the record entitled “The Padded Room”. The album sees the Dutch producer explore the sounds that the label is known for and perhaps sees him shy away a bit from hip-hop, a genre that has a place near and dear to his heart.

The album has guest appearances from a number of artists such as vocalist Damani Leidsman, percussionist Jos De Haas from New Cool Collective, soul collective the Dangerfeel Newbies and of course flutist Han Litz of the Kindred Spirits Ensemble who features on our premiere today. The Mandrill has got some bouncy percussion, a chunky bassline and a groovy piano sequence that are bound to make you move on any given day of the week. Add the fantastic jazzy flute skills of Han Litz and you’ve got that extra bit of spice that takes this track over the top and makes it one of the standout cuts on the album.

Don’t snooze on the rest of the album either as it is very much a dance record sprinkled with seasoning and influences from around the world.

Felix Leifur has seriously been putting in some hours in the studio. His new EP titled Hamburg 3011 will be released on the mighty Dirt Crew Recordings, available on wax on 26th October and digitally on the 29th. The EP in true Felix style is house music influenced by jazz and hip hop. We have the pleasure of presenting the premiere of the opening track, which gives a great introduction to the EP.

The infectiously hazy first track of the Icelandic man’s newest EP is titled Between Us. The piece starts out with a spacey layering of tribal drums, which are looped to create an infectious rhythm. A hypnotic vocal floats into the mix to keep the tension spiralling, before a deep kick drum drops in and brings some order. A deep sustained almost disharmonic chord rings out to solidify a darker tone in the track, which is complimented by a groovy yet simple bass line at 1 minute 20 seconds.

The energy of the track swirls around in true Felix Leifur style, although this feels slightly different to his previous work, it feels more experimental, as if he is pushing the boundaries just a touch further. An open hat rings through the mix to get this track swinging and a distant jazz trumpet sings melodies in the distance, before hitching a ride from the outskirts to arrive at the forefront of the mix. The filter of a synth roars open to provide some grit, some dirt, and supplies some more emotion.

The eclectic feel of this EP is very powerful, and one to definitely check out. Pre-order it here.

Emerging British producer Joe Corti is a man on a roll right now. Having recently completed his first US tour, the London­born musician is now set to release the debut release from his new label, China White. A four ­track EP that’s notable for its dancefloor prowess and undoubted charm, the label’s inaugural release into the mind of a very special talent indeed.

Opening up the B side is the sounds of ‘Hollywood Arms’. This time, Corti brings things toward deeper territory, with the end result being a track that veers between the eerie and the melancholy but also shows off the deep range that makes up his production arsenal. The most banging of the tracks comes last in the shape of ‘Without You’. A heavy cut featuring clever vocal samples that weave in and out, its soulful edge help lend it a unique charm that forces parallels with Honey Dijon at her best and is sure to prove a hit with discerning DJs from both the house and techno side of the spectrum. An all­round thrilling EP that’s never lacking in personality, Corti’s latest truly is a joy to behold.
