OJPB (soundcloud) is one of several aliases that Montreal-based Olivier Borzeix goes by. You may have heard some of his previous work under his Bowly, DÐD or MTSP monikers (have a listen to his MIXED BY/). Making his live debut as OJPB at last year’s Mutek Festival, he has shifted the bulk of his production to this pseudonym. His hardware focused approach to a more house-leaning sound revolves around an MPC 2000XL which he refers to as the “brain” of his studio.
With two EPs under his belt as OJPB, one a widely successful release on Tensnake’s True Romance label just a few months ago, he is back with his third release, a follow-up EP forthcoming on local favourites Parages Music.
We have the premiere of the A1 track, Pythonisse, for your listening pleasure. A slowly developing, hypnotizing analog jam, it’s consistent with the sound that OJPB has been cultivating over his first couple of releases. Shimmering chords, a groovy shaker and some afro-percussion really lend a bit of tropical warmth to the overall vibe. A deep, walking bassline adds support to the overall composition but the focal point is on the synth work which gradually evolves into a mesmerizing climax that’s bound to have a few closed-eye, hands in the air moments on late night dancefloors. Don’t miss out on this release which includes a lovely D’Marc Cantu remix and pre-order it here.
