Today’s premiere comes from Sydney based producer Body Corp. Though we know Marco Vella through releases under his birth name and other projects such as Retiree, he’s only released a single track under his Body Corp alias until now: a five minute percussive body shaker on Pelvis’ DJ Tools compilation back in 2017. Now comes his debut EP as Body Corp on Melbourne based imprint Soothsayer, a label who delicately navigate the intersection of underground dance music and more pop-leaning leftfield sounds.
Consisting of four originals and a remix from Francis Inferno Orchestra, Body Corp’s Soft Expression EP is timed perfectly, as shimmering synths and sweet melodies echo the spring heat just around the corner. Our premiere is the title track ‘Soft Expression’, a sun-tinged italo stomper. Tender clav chords, funky bassline and stomping drums make the bulk of the track, though the stuttered vocal-like melody that appears in the breakdown is the icing on the cake. Influenced by his time spent in Japan, Marco’s striking melodies are like ear-candy. Perfect for any spring / summer celebration – should we manage to make it to summer past this impending apocalypse – or anyone in need of some motivation in these days of isolation, Body Corp’s debut EP is a mood we’re all in need of.
