Amsterdam analog fiends La Freund are back for their third release. After capturing and massaging eardrums with EPs from Duke Hugh and Sjamsoedin, the imprint invites Dutch producer Beraber to join the roster. With no known releases to date under this alias, the Amsterdam man makes quite an impressive debut here with Sun Ritual. The five-tracker is packed with warm hardware work and lush original instrumentation.
The A-Side hosts the title track, and our premiere for the day in Chicago deep house vet Vincent Floyd’s remix of the cut. The original take curates a coastal and utterly relaxing vibe, decorated by sweet chords, fluttering synths and a combination of tropical and machine percussions. Floyd’s remix serves to toughen up the occasion, adding substantial beef to the kick drum and clap and re-presenting the track as a deeper dancefloor affair. The arrangement is tightened and maneuvered for increased playability. It’s an eight-minute long journey intended for pleasureful release on the late night dance.
The B hosts more lovely hardware work from Beraber; hosting the phat “Ugly” as well as the sentimental synth affairs of “Introspect” and “Forest Rain”. All in all, a strong outing for the new alias and for La Freund, which has certainly honed in delightfully on a specific sound for themselves as a label. The Sun Ritual EP is due out November 24th and will be available on vinyl and digital format.
