Club legend Lele Sacchi and Italy’s most influential indie label Asian Fake present their newest Milan-based venture, Stolen Goods Records. Their first release, ‘Volume Zero’, is a sampler featuring twelve Italian artists showcasing the upcoming flavours of the imprint, spanning all corners of the electronic music spectrum.

‘Stolen Goods – Volume 0’ boasts an impressive cast of established artists and newcomers alike. Life and Death and Ransom Note veteran Bawrut, legendary 90s hero DJ Rocca and up & coming Asian Fake artist Plastica kick off the release. They are joined by Funk Rimini’s blissful footwork, recent Truncate & Symbolism signing Elisa Bee’s floor-filling techno and Nic Sarno’s experimental style of new wave dance music.

The release also sees Hot Creations & Defected’s Rogue D rework an old Tyree Cooper hip-house track before label co-owner Lele Sacchi comes in with a hypermodern fusion of house and techno. Apparel’s Artizhan, Ruff Stuff, Sickarone and Tempio del Futuro Perduto mastermind Industrial Romantico round things off by adding a rave-ready, electro and breakbeat influenced package to the release.

Sampling Moods Records was founded in 2015 by Edoardo Danielli. It revives his legacy and philosophy thanks to sam sampling moods, a cultural association established in his memory in 2018. Leo Mas was the protagonist and witness of the club scene phenomenon that was born in Ibiza he played at the Amnesia club (with Alfredo) during ’85, ’86, ’87 and ’88 (The Second Summer of Love) and ’90 (without Alfredo which played at Pacha).
Thanks to his unique sound and innovative set he was propelled as one of the pioneers of house music and balearic sound.

Fabrice (Fabrizio Lazzari) was one of the pioneers and exponents of the Italian dance scene. Matteo Ciccarone, better known as Sickarone, is a producer from Turin with a sound shaped by Jungle, Garage, Footwork, and everything in between. His productions are full of nostalgic, properly chopped breaks, tons of pitched and hypnotic vocals and deep subs.

There are many DJs and selectors out there that label themselves as crate diggers – a slang term used to describe anyone who spends their time sifting through vinyl records at music shops in search of hidden gems. I was going to use the phrase to describe the Italian label Four Flies Records but thought it’d be a disservice. The collective, led by founder and film director Pier De Sanctis, isn’t necessarily digging through crates to find rare sounds – but are instead creating the crate itself.

Many of the tracks the imprint has released have included cuts from the 60s and 70s Italian film, radio, and television. Oftentimes, these songs have either been long forgotten in attics or basements while others have never actually been circulated for official release. This sort of musical excavation shares more similarities with modern archaeology than what we find most producers doing at your local record shop. Since their founding in 2015, Pier and his mates have already put out over 75 vinyl records, some of which have featured in popular films like Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and TV Shows like High Fidelity.

During their most recent dig in 2018, Four Flies Records unearthed the previously unheard of “Africa Oscura” by legendary composer Giuliano Sorgini. The original work portrays a fictional and mysterious continent, providing a soundtrack tinged with dark moods and cosmic shades. One of the major reasons why the record caught the ear of Pier and friends was how sparse it was, resembling the open-ended arrangements one might hear in downtempo music today.

Setting out to make Mr. Sorgini’s records more accessible to music lovers around the globe, Four Flies Records has decided to release a double 12” of his songs, which include 7 reworks by six of Italy’s most visionary DJs/producers: Jolly Mare, L.U.C.A. (aka Francisco), pAd, and Quiroga & Dario Bass. The version we are fortunate enough to be premiering for you today comes from the likes of Painè Cuadrelli, better known as Painé. Keeping several of the song’s original elements intact, the Italian producer decides to up the tempo of its trance-inducing percussion while adding in some much-appreciated, dance-floor ready bass. In the end, this gives “Africa Oscura” a great deal of energy but manages not to damage the original’s feel or intent. For any DJ looking to take their listeners on a  Balearic journey around the sun – look no further!

Never failing to surprise, both Seb Wildblood and his beloved Church imprint are true firm favorites here at Bolting Bits. Originating from a basement of a church in Camberwell, the outfit has been going from strength to strength in recent times, delivering a blissful 40 now EP by the mysterious Biodive last month.

Their latest venture is a 10-track journey with the Italian Aura Safari quintet behind the steering wheel. Alessandro, Andrea, Daniele, Lorenzo and Nicholas all come from different musical backgrounds and generations, which is evident in the album. Years spent in the local scene of Perugia (Italy) attending Umbria Jazz Festival every summer and winter nights at the legendary Red Zone Club have shaped the sound of the collective.

Traces of various musical eras and influences such as Jazz Fusion, 80’s Boogie, World Music, Italo House, Balearic Beats and Jazz Funk can be felt throughout the release, giving it great diversity and unpredictability. The Aura Safari LP is an example of their genuine love of music spanning across a variety of genres. Swift percussion, sexy trumpets, funky piano chords and flowing melodies is only the tip of the iceberg of what you’ll find inside. St. David is a House DJ and producer who hails from Southern Italy and has spent the past couple years putting out work on labels such as New York’s Let’s Play House. Having covered his previous EPs like “Fools Jam”, Bolting Bits is glad to see that St. David has chosen to take a big step in his career and launch his own label in 2019 called “Theory of Swing.”

Following hot on the heels of their successful debut release, Viaggio steps up to the mark with another release rich with global flavors. Musta, one half of Viaggio Recordings was born in Rome but now finds himself surrounded by the beauty of the tropical Italian island of Sardinia. Musta also spends a lot of time traveling and living in South America, which is evident as his cultural experience translates across his music.

“Cantana” invites you deep into the tribe’s inner circle, dancing next to the raw open fire as tribalistic chants and bellowing drums surround your senses. Intricate melodies draw you deeper into the warm sound. Analog synths and cleverly used local samples are the foundations of this track and play a huge part in bringing the whole thing together, transforming it into a listening experience. The energy pushing through this piece is awe-inspiring. It really paints a picture of how much passion and life is brought into these ritual dances.

Throughout the rest of the EP, Kincaid provides the remix of “Cantana” taking it even deeper and darker via trippy synths and glitchy twisted effects. Additionally, “Mangiamo” rounds off the record quite nicely if you’re a sucker for a sax, funky guitar riffs and dancing bongos.

“Dreamscapes” is the title of the track we have the pleasure of sharing. The track is Balearic house at its finest. It is a soundscape which illustrates a warm, hazy tropical scene. Warm synths and dreamy high-pitched tones ring away and emanate bird song, the bass line plucks away and percussion drives throughout and lays the groove. So much groove.

As is common in Balearic house music, a stringed guitar plays melodies which furthers the romance and chilled out feel of the track.

This is track would not sound out of place on a dance floor thanks to the energy of the drums and the build-up of space and delay between sections. However, it may be best placed on a long scenic drive in the summer, or perhaps whilst lying on a beach. Wherever you choose to listen, it will bring a glimpse of sun and sea and perhaps a memory of a happier and warmer time.

A warm wind helps the process and makes the palm trees gently move. You got the idea? If you find yourself fortunate enough to be in this kind of context, it’s your lucky day because we’ve got the perfect soundtrack. If on the contrary you are still at work or stuck in the city then cheer up! By the end of this article you’ll be halfway there…

Cosmic Rhythm are back once again with one of their best releases to date and what better moment than now to unveil it. Rhythm of Paradise transports us to a beautiful soundscape reminding us very much of Italy’s house music golden age with”Universe of Love”, his latest instalment for the ever-growing label. Lending its title to the EP, the A-side opener takes us into the groove with smooth pads and soft moaning and giggling, slowly building up with a groovy bassline and great flute parts, some organ action towards the middle of the track and 909 drum patterns. Great little set opener.

“Mellow”, the second track of the A-side is the one we are premiering today. Featuring a looping bassline and a vibe to die for, it’s probably the track you’ll hear the most at after-parties this year. The piano riff is here to add some action to the track but then the pad settles it down to the more moody side of 90s deep house. We can’t wait to hear it during a beautiful sunrise after a long night…

Flip to the other side and be welcomed by “Mystical Ambience”, the fastest of the bunch. Featuring roughly the same elements as the aforementioned tracks but with more synth action and a speedy tempo. It’s the more club-friendly track of the bunch. Last but not least is “Essence”. The Italian producer infuses some italo-disco goodness into this one, especially the bassline, and transports us to the end of the dance session with a very loopy four-to-the-floor joint.

Overall this EP is a lush masterpiece of dance music and an absolute must-have. Get it here, thank us later.
