If someone were to offer me a golden plane ticket to anywhere in the world right now, I’d choose Japan. Although I’ve never visited, there’s always been a special something drawing me there. Scenery? cuisine? culture? I’d say a melting pot of them all.

Interest in this great island has again piqued with the release of Kyoto based producer Stones Taro latest work ‘Gold’. Gold builds in meticulously planned stages: first hypnotic synths, then thick bass capped off with an assortment of acidic stabs. If I were you I’d listen to this one in headphones, to truly grasp the layers of sound on show here. This tracks a club whirlpool, a tune best listened to below ground in a dimly lit room. It isn’t everyday we have the opportunity to premiere work from Japan and it’s records like this that have me oh so excited to get over there and see what else Stones Taro and his NC4K no collar 4 kicks crew are cooking up!
