Philipp Priebe’s Stólar imprint has fully cemented itself as something synonymous with raw, understated and mesmeric electronic music in varying forms. A sonic thread runs through the catalogue whilst the releases themselves ebb and flow through genres to make up the overarching tapestry that has become the label’s sonic identity. Here, yet another striking sign of the unique space it exists in is presented by A//P, a brand-new project from POWEL and Alexander Muyrgin.
‘Nacheuchten’ leads with stripped down drums, metalli chimes, drifting chords and glitched out synths, accompanied by oscillating leads and airy vocal chants. ‘Allowing Chaos To Happen’ then leans into a deeper techno realm via modulating percussion, a sturdy rhythm section, elongated bass tones and poetic spoken word vocal.
Next up, Copenhagen’s Merv, a regular on Kontakt Records, delivers his signature dub heavy style with an interpretation of ‘Dents Du Midi’, laid out across seven minutes with shimmering textures, fluttering dub echoes and shuffled drums before Noc:turne’s ’Percussive Cut’ rework of ‘Resonanzwesen’ as the name would suggest employs dynamic, nuanced percussion that delicated evolves and unfolds atop a hazy textural undertone. The original version of ‘Resonanzwesen’ then concludes the package, an atmospheric ambient cut driven by warped synths, shifting pads, pulsating low end and an ever evolving tension throughout.
