Kitsta – Liefmans [Manual Smiles]

Mysterious synths ripple and swell in Kitsta’s ‘Liefmans’, otherworldly signals transmitting over its rolling percussion before building up to an energetic, psychedelic finish. The ‘Liefmans’ EP on Manual Smiles is marked by prog-tinted melodies, warped vocals and tough drum work and comes hot on the heels of Kitsta’s own Megababes label launch this summer.

Following the title track, ‘Common Courtesy’ continues with warm analog bass, bodied tom-hits and her signature use of tongue-in-cheek vocal samples. This is before Bordello A Parigi, CWPT, and Permanent Vacation artist REES closes out proceedings with a version of ‘Liefmans’, the Magic Ritmo co-founder takes off on a fast-paced adventure in the outer reaches of the galaxy via bouncing basslines, spacious fx and mind-melting melodies.

The Beatriarchy co-founder Kitsta lands on n_o’s Manual Smiles imprint following a busy few years gigging on the UK club circuit, often seen on the bill in clubs such as Corsica Studios, Wire and Soup, while holding down residencies on Balamii and Voices Radio. With The Beatriarchy, she works to spotlight underrepresented artists in the music scene, having recently led a workshop at Sheffield’s No Bounds Festival and curated a residency at The Halley Space as part of the Orbit partnership in London. Besides her work in the booth and behind the scenes, she produces euphoric and glistening music touching on prog, trance and hard-house, already supported by artists such as Hammer, Amaliah, Kelly Lee Owens and many more.
