Last time we wrote about the Detroit legend Javonntte he had dropped a project of hazy late night heaters on London’s Hardmatter. Fast forward to today and he’s blessed us with another slew of deep house gems, this time for release on the New York City based stalwart Let’s Play House. Javonntte is a hot commodity right now – last year he released five projects, he’s already got one under his belt in 2018, and there are three more set to drop in March and April. Simply put, the man is a machine. If you follow him on Facebook, this won’t come as a surprise. On any given day, he’s live streaming from his studio, riffing on multiple instruments and analog gear, collaborating with friends, and generally having a great damn time.
One thing you’ll notice if you watch Javonntte’s videos is that he’s a master of the drum machine. Masterful grooves are the centerpiece of this project, and the record’s final track, “Organic J,” is powered by deep jackin’ drums that chug along underneath a gorgeous pad, piano stabs, stuttering bass, and a choppy vocal sample. This is deep house at it’s finest – simple, emotive, and trance inducing. This one will get the late night plays it deserves.
The remainder of the EP is just as solid, and these are definitely tools you need for your bag. Like a classic wool sweater, music of this quality is sure to stand the test of time. Stay tuned for the drop on March 16th.
