Gnork’s leftfield dance label Earth Plates returns with their latest vinyl release, this time with fellow Hungarian CT Kidobó’s Exboyfriend EP. Kidobó may have been slightly under the radar in their Budapest locale, but is wasting no time making a name for themselves with flaring analogue electro flavor. The EP begins with two powerful electro tracks by Kidobó and the flip side features two great re—interpretations (both with a healthy dose of acid) by Label head Gnork, and Zurich’s Douala.
The title track Exboyfriend starts the EP off with a bang. CT Kidobó’s fast-paced and commanding drum programming recalls pre-pandemic memories of dimly-lit, intimate dancefloors while the heady melodies offer moments of foggy bliss and cloudy introspection. The vocal sampling in combination with lush melodic tones offer a dreamlike human touch in what is otherwise a robotic infusion of sounds. If this invigorating and deep electro style is what Kidobó has in store for listeners, there is no doubt you’ll be hearing more of them.
The Exboyfriend EP marks the second physical release of 2020 for Gnork’s Budapest-based Earth Plates label, and is CT Kidobó’s first time on wax. It is scheduled for release on September 15th.
