Following a journey of releases via Morocco, Uganda and Kenya, Banana Hill re looking a bit closer to home for their 5th physical release with an accomplished debut vinyl EP from Manchester-based producer Clay. Sounds of the city run through this record with ethereal synths, scattered percussion and driving low end showing a breadth of dancefloor influences spanning broken beat and classic house.
The EP swings into life with the beautifully layered grooves of ‘People Floating’ before jumping headlong into title track ‘Shapes (Dreaming Mix)’, which is packed full of nostalgia and sounds like it was crafted for a specific moment at 3am in a Salford club. On the B-side, ‘Up There’ is a late-nite slow burner that morphs into a relentless house banger.
