Minneapolis doesn’t usually come to mind when thinking of Midwest house music, however, folks like Jeff Swiff have been holding it down there for the better part of the last decade with solid events and production. Nicewon is an iteration of this hustle, and the label is now taking physical form with its first vinyl release. The drop comes via MPLS producer Christian James, with a remix from young London sensation and YouTube house celebrity Cody Currie.

That very remix serves as our premiere from the release. Cody takes the bounciness and stabbing chords of the original here and reworks the stems into a swinging, midtempo affair. A full and fun bassline keeps the track moving nicely between layered hats and some trademark vocal sample filtering by Currie. The remix is a nice compliment to the rest of the record, serving as a loose, low-slung alternative to the faster originals. It’s always nice to see another American label taking flight in the wax game, and Nicewon is here to represent the NoCoast.
Nicewon is commendably taking the self-distributed approach, so preorder the wax on their Bandcamp if you’re feeling it.
