No Speakers welcomes DJ Honesty into the fold with his latest EP ‘Unknown Pleasures’, releasing on the 28th of September. A regular on labels such as Bass Culture, Scenario, and Cabinet, DJ Honesty brings his dub techno and bass-driven, hypnotic grooves to No Speakers. Arkajo is invited to remix the title track ‘Unknown Pleasures’, well known for his work as one half of the infamous Genius of Time duo and his harmonic, melodically rich releases.
Opening the EP, ‘Unknown Pleasures’ pairs dubbed-out techno chords with sonic textures, creating a hazy atmosphere for the dancefloor. Arkajo’s remix of the title track injects a driving swing into the track, as warped pads weave and duck between muscular synth stabs to deliver a peak-time roller. Deep sub-bass melodies and warm pads intertwine with electro synths and acidic tones in ‘Gomma Natural’, painting a haunting yet dreamy soundscape. Closing the EP, ‘Noneties’ shifts focus to broken beat percussion and wobbling basslines. Garage undertones ebb and flow throughout, delivering a punchy, bass-heavy ending to the release.
