Although they’ve only been around for two years, Washington D.C. based label Better Listen Records has already made quite the splash in the underground music scene – releasing a total of 14 records from some of our favorite rising producers like Joe Corti, Sune, Ari Bald, and Ethyène. If you thought they’d be satisfied with such a prolific output, you’d be wrong my friend…very wrong. After taking a brief sabbatical last summer, the boys of BLR are coming back to us well-rested, reloaded, and ready to share new sounds from their eclectic group of talented artists.

[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/premiere-dorsi-plantar-make-sure-you-mean-that-shit” /]

The person leading their return happens to be Dorsi Plantar, who made his BLR debut with the springtime treasure Everlast. Being the first artist to come out with a sophomore EP on the label, the man from Copenhagen has a lot to live up to after making such a stellar impression last year. That being said, if the latest track off his upcoming EP Tack Farsan is any indication, it’s clear that Mr. Plantar has no intention of disappointing.

Titled Make Sure You Mean That Shit, this original features several elements that’ll make it a surefire way for DJs to get the dancefloor pumping wherever it’s played. Festive adlibs? Check! Inspiring quotes? Check! Latin grooves? Check! Face-melting, disco-laden chord progressions? Check! These sorts of elements are what made us fall in love with Dorsi and his sound last year, and we’re absolutely positive they’ll leave those smitten who aren’t already familiar.

To get your hands on this and the rest of Tack Farsan, make sure to pre-order the record right here! It’s set to come out on October 12th!

Alas, the first run of the wonderfully well-received and expertly curated origami series from Melbourne-based Kyoku Records is coming to an end. However, before moving on to new endeavours, we’re going to be graced with one last appearance from the orizuru, hachidori, oumu and hakucho, that is, the paper crane, the hummingbird, the parrot and the swan. The aptly titled “Odoru Tori” EP which translates to “Dancing Birds” is the first of its kind various artists compilation for the Australian imprint, featuring the same group of producers who were at the helm for each of the label’s solo releases to date. Making their return are Dorsi Plantar, Long Island Sound, Sune, and Ethyène (alongside Folamour and Marc Bianco).[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/premiere-long-island-sound-ease-in” /]

You may find the artwork for today’s premiere familiar, and that is because the parrot has already made an appearance both for Kyoku and for Bolting Bits in the form of a premiere of Long Island Sound’s (soundcloud) Delusions from their solo “Last Place You Look” EP released almost exactly a year ago. We’re more than happy to follow that one up with today’s feature, Ease In, the B1 on the forthcoming VA compilation. The Irish duo employ a familiar recipe here, finding another catchy vocal hook and intricately weaving it in along with other samples into an engaging arrangement that not only makes you want to listen but more importantly makes you want to dance as well. The main string sample lends a dreamy character to the song while the tougher drums and groovy bassline pleasantly contradict it. Pair all of the above with their adept synth work and you’ve got yourself another surefire hit.As always, this one comes highly recommended and will be vinyl only, so be sure to get your copy at Juno.

We’re all suckers for piano driven house music, so we were instantly drawn in by “Everlast,” the first track from Dorsi Plantar’s (soundcloud) forthcoming Everlast EP on Washington D.C.’s Better Listen Records. If you aren’t familiar, BLR has been on fire since its inception, as Martín Miguel, the man behind the music, has an excellent ear for talent.
Uplifting from the jump, “Everlast” is the kind of track that carries an opening set into the middle of the night, pushing bodies to the dance floor with a message that says, “it’s time we kick things off.” A punchy keyboard loop sits below glistening stabs, all complemented by a beautiful arrangement of organic percussion and a thick sub riff that adds Dorsi’s signature oomph to an already slammin’ affair. This is whip music, folks. This is music for the outdoors; the music in your head when you feel like the world is yours. This is the sonic equivalent to a smooth radio voice; Plantar puts the sex in sexy.

Fans of “Everlast” won’t be disappointed by the rest of the EP, consisting of three more vibe-setting joints that are equally as uplifting and playable. Keep an eye on the BLR page as they roll out this EP… it’s one for the books.
Each year brings with it new music from artists or labels that were previously unheard of. This year is no different, with many new and emerging faces having provided us with some exceptional listening material. Enter Kyoku Records, a label established in 2016 by two friends from Melbourne, Australia, who are committed to bringing quality music from both established and up-and-coming talents to the world.

Just two releases in and they’ve caught the ears of some of the scene’s best tastemakers. Records from seasoned Frenchman Ethyène and budding Dane Dorsi Plantar are making the rounds now and you may still be able to snag a copy of each if it’s not too late, as these are strictly limited affairs. Their artwork thus far has consisted of origami birds with inserts that show you how to create each one and that will be the case for the third release as well.

Irish duo Long Island Sound (soundcloud) are at the helm for Kyoku’s third EP, “Last Place You Look” and we are very excited to bring you the premiere of the B1 track Delusions. Warm sampled chords and natural sounding percussion slowly evolve alongside a bent note that forms an ear-pleasing hook while an elegant female vocal really draws the listener in. Delicate keys and a high string line further compliment the graceful composition as some filtered synth work aids the piece in reaching its apex. Meanwhile, the bass works in perfect tandem with the drum groove which lends the otherwise alluring tune a very danceable quality.

The release won’t be out for a while yet but this should motivate you to get your pre-orders in early!
