B.G. Baarregaard – Buskerud Tales EP

B.G. Baarregaard - Buskerud Tales

Tenured cosmic disco imprint Whiskey Pickle is making the move towards the wax medium after thirty digital releases. Their inaugural vinyl drop comes from the hands of Nordic disco veteran B.G. Baarregaard (soundcloud) – likely best known for his contributions to labels such as Whiskey Disco (there’s a lot of Whiskey in this write-up), Editorial, Paper Recordings, Midnight Riot and Wall of Fame. With WPW (or Whiskey Pickle Wax), the Pickle is seeking to continue and expand on the same quality, nu-disco grooves that made the it a successful digital imprint over the last seven years.

Though the producer’s more recent releases have been mostly of the sample-based and edit-leading variety, the Buskerud Tales EP sees B.G. taking an approach grounded largely in original instrumentation. The four track EP is a blend of italo disco, balearic and cosmic influences, sitting comfortably in the midtempo range with groovy rhythms and B.G.’s synths leading the way.

Bolting Bits is pleased to reveal the A1 track off WPW001, “Get Up”. The cut is driven by paradisiacal, melodic keys and complimented by cleverly layered synth work and well-timed samples. Meanwhile, the beat itself–layered with sweet congas, a nicely placed cowbell and a mean clap–serves to place this synth disco groove in a comfortable pocket. Fans of low-slung, tropical nu-disco and cosmic disco grooves will certainly be intrigued by both the lead track and the EP in general. The release is due out in the middle of the month, with WPW002 following close behind, so be on the lookout! Pre-order : http://bit.ly/2exfyeM
