After critically-acclaimed releases on well-established labels such as Pont Neuf, Shall Not Fade and Strctr, Parisian artist Tour-Maubourg enters French label Noire & Blanche with yet another outstanding EP titled ‘Floating On Silence’.

‘Longing For U’ opens up the EP in a beautiful way: Complex drum rhythms are accompanied by smooth instrumentation which enters the track slowly, almost as if the instrumentalists were shy and had to gather their courage – until the saxophone takes over and plays a buoyant solo just before the 4 minutes mark.

‘I Wanna’ is centered around a swung jazz drum beat and sleek bassline played by a double bass while various playful synthesizer melodies join the track here and there and some vocal bits can be heard in the far distance.

While the first two tracks have an almost loungey character, track no. 3, ‘Nite People’, gently invites us to the dancefloor. As the four-to-the-floor kick, swung hi-hats and pointy snares unequivocally tell us to shake our hips, the rest of the ‘house band’ take it a bit more slowly – until the 303-style acid synth comes in and shouts “all right, let’s dance!” and the whole track kicks it up a notch.

The title track, ‘Floating On Silence’ represents exactly what made many of us love the music by Tour-Maubourg: It’s super soulful and sexy, with lovely jazzy melodies and an irresistible groove created by the interplay of drums, bass and percussion, foremost the driving conga rhythm. All in all, a very elegant yet dancefloor-ready deep house track.

Out of all tracks on the EP, ‘Mighty Groove’ is definitely the funkiest one. A palm-muted electric guitar, groovy synth stabs, deep bass line and earworm-inducing lead synth have a get together and the drums and percussion glue everything neatly together to round-off this artful EP by Tour-Maubourg.

Colombia’s deep house don, Felipe Gordon drops his latest release – the Superimposition EP, by way of Parisian label Noire & Blanche.

The six track EP features the impressive and introspective jazz-filled deep house that Felipe Gordon has been making himself known for. Following a string of sought after releases on well-known labels such as Shall Not Fade, Razor N Tape, Toy Tonics, and Dam Swindle’s Heist Recordings, there is no question that Felipe Gordon has been turning heads. His take on Chicago house lands him in a stylistic category with legends such as Moodymann and Theo Parrish, while confidently blazing his own musical path.

Felipe Gordon’s distinct nod to classy deep house is characterized by captivating soundscapes, smoky jazz elements, old school soulful samples, groovy basslines, synth magic and excellent use of strings.

The opening track of the EP, Mr Umbawa, is a perfect case study of Felipe’s work. A steady and commanding drum pattern set the stage from the get go, with a warm bassline, and jazzy chords. Much of the magic of Felipe Gordon’s music lies in his use of samples and prolific work on the keys, and Mr Umbawa is no different. The track sets up the Superimposition EP perfectly, with a vibe that is suitable for dancing around the house, or at the club. There is no question – the future is bright for the Bogota-based producer.

After debuting as Pool Boy in 2018, Canadian producer Cyril Hahn is back with his second record under the newer moniker. Rising to prominence via some pitch shifted and earworm-y remixes almost a decade ago, his sound began to naturally evolve in the studio. Thus, Pool Boy was born. His identity started to take on more of a sun-kissed and bubbly persona, perhaps even taking influence from some of Vancouver’s west-coast sound pioneers such as the Mood Hut crew.

Pool Boy’s debut came on London’s Coastal Haze, an apt home for his new vibrant and sometimes off-kilter sound. His follow-up comes on French imprint Noire et Blanche, sub-label of Délicieuse Records, who themselves have been quiet for a couple of years. “All Inclusive” is the title and would be the perfect record to listen to while sipping on a tropical drink and laying on the beaches of a resort down south. Something tells us he had the same idea.

Our premiere today is “Pool House” which features another Canadian and Coastal Haze alum, Pacific Coliseum. Perhaps the most upbeat track on the record, it’s also a little more versatile, fitting both in a nice warm-up set or just during a listening session. The rubbery bassline and harder hitting claps give it more of a clubby flair while the overall ambience itself is easygoing. Moody synths add to the already emotional atmosphere set by the chords.

The rest of the album trends to a brighter sound and we highly recommend a listen to it all in one go as it’s a perfect warm weather appetizer. To top it off there’s also a little remix package featuring Khotin, Gooch and Domenique Dumont. Be sure to get your hands on this one!

Délicieuse Records’ House imprint Noire & Blanche are beginning to create quite the name for themselves, after coming out with notable releases from some of our favorite artists like Tell, Folamour, and Loure. To keep their momentum going, the French label has decided to close out the year strong with a compilation that features close friends and musicians they’ve worked with in the past. That sort of list would not necessarily be that impressive for most young labels, but that is definitely not the case here. Their Various Artists Vol. 1 will include tracks from the likes of Roberto S, A Vision of Panorama, Too Smooth Christ, Folamour, Tell, and work from an artist we are featuring in today’s post – Leon Revol!

The Frenchman is becoming a sort of Bolting Bits regular if you will, having covered his releases on labels such as Beats of No Nation, Monologues Records, and Secret Reels. Although Mr. Revol likes to spend most of his time blending a mixture of jazz and house, his contribution to the record titled Y is certainly more of the latter. Marked by vibrant waves of synths that ebb and flow in terms of intensity, Leon is able to create a slow-burner of a deep house tune that will leave you feeling hypnotized with its assortment of faint whispers and mesmerizing percussion. If you are a fan of music from other artists such as Felipe Gordon, this will certainly wet your whistle.
