Renowned London-based DJ and producer Matt Benyayer, previously celebrated for his work under the Dark Sky alias, announces the release of his latest singles ‘Infiltrator and Domiray’. These tracks are part of a series of dance focused singles to be released under his new name ‘Benyayer’.

Kicking things off: ‘Infiltrator’, a relentless track built for club sound systems with a twisted bassline that morphs throughout. Beneath it all lies a barrage of UK funky-inspired drums, punctuated by neck-snapping snares, guaranteed to wreak havoc on the dancefloor. ‘Probably one of the nuttiest tracks I’ve made to date’ recounts Matt, ‘the U.K sound of 2009-2012 was in the back of my mind a bit whilst working on this, an era in music that will always have a soft spot in my heart’.

The release of ‘Infiltrator and Domiray’ comes on the heels of support from influential DJs and radio personalities Tom Ravenscroft, Benji B, and Gilles Peterson of BBC Radio 6, along with endorsements from renowned artists such as Laurent Garnier, Jamie XX, Bicep, Bonobo, and Modeselektor to name but a few.

Benyayer takes a multidisciplinary approach, blending his fine art background from Central St Martins with his musical endeavours. The artwork and visuals were collaboratively designed and animated with Joel Hayden, reflecting a synthesis of visual and auditory elements.

To complement the release, Matt has crafted an exciting new live show that showcases modular synths and drum machines that he’s been testing across Europe, garnering rave reviews.

With an extensive touring history and performances at prestigious venues and festivals around the world, including Berghain’s 13th Birthday event at Panorama Bar, Fabric, Glastonbury, MUTEK, Dimensions, and Melt, it should come as no surprise that Benyayer’s upcoming releases are being served with a healthy dose of anticipation.

John “Cyclonix” Wilcox is the original raver, the sort of person who knows the roots of his music inside out. He can craft an electronic music sculpture that echoes both the classic dance sound of the UK (bass heavy, chord based, break sampling and crisp), and the purest Chicago and Detroit house and techno influences. Some of the highlights on his career include releasing on cult labels like Tusk Wax, Smuggler’s Inn, Bristol’s Boogie Café and Phuture Shock Musik or contemporary dance floor soul staple Broadcite among other highly recommended projects.“Efeito Borboleta” is his take on the Percebes sound and it features three incredible originals and a home-made remix by girl of the moment Sheri Vari.

Our premiere today is “Butterfly Effect”: a deep stomper that could well have been released on Underground Quality or Sistrum. It is space and emotion, bubbling with jungle breaks and 909 power, channeled through the medium of deep, touching house music.

While 2019 has continued the trend of producers pillaging the past for sounds and textures of yesteryear, a few of the elder statesman of the genre continue to press forward to new soundscapes and vistas hitherto unheard. So it is for Jim Coles and Damon Kirkham—better known as Om Unit and Kid Drama—who have teamed up for a fertile 4-tracker on Apollo Records, founded in 1992 as the Ambient division of R&S Records.

Damon has been up to bat plenty of times in his roughly 20 year history, recording his earliest works alongside Boddika as part of the duo Instra:mental, while Jim has been dancing along a spectrum of bass music over the last decade, ranging from low-slung hip hop to mutant variations of jungle and footwork. Jim and Damon have also both produced for the renowned Metalheadz label, resulting in some of the most fervent and caustic examples of drum and bass music of recent memory; however, Om Unit and Kid Drama sync up here to deliver gorgeously blissed-out cuts of astral exploration.

[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/om-unit-kid-drama-untitled-4″ /]
“Untitled 4” is a perfect snapshot of the duo’s penchant for splicing serenity and grit together to a profound effect. The track evolves gradually with spectral synths that shimmer like stars. Delicate, precise snares propel the track through a high-definition atmosphere glowing and rippling with wonder, until it briefly swerves into the path of a gnarling bass spike that drips with dread. Om Unit and Kid Drama use almost all of Untitled 4’s duration to circle this dichotomy of floating and sinking, coasting through zones of beauty until nearly colliding head on into the pitch black darkness.

These moments of narrow escape buoy the tension of the whole track, pushing and pulling until the final seconds confront the blistering light of a sun, scattering the darkness towards the edges until all that’s left is the brightness. It may still just be a fever dream, but it seems Om Unit and Kid Drama have fully cracked the secrets of space travel. Pre-order now.

DJ Whipr Snipr founded Nerang Recordings back in 2016 in the town of Nerang, residing on Australia’s Gold Coast. The focus of the label is to platform quality feet-moving house music and its sibling subgenres. Since its formation, they have gone on to release material from some impressive artists such as Subjoi, Paradiso Rhythm and Interplanetary Criminal. This year has been a milestone year for the label, moving to vinyl releases, with an incoming EP containing one face-melter of a track which we are delighted to premiere today.[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/premiere-dos-guaca-nerang-recordings” /]

Next up in the Aussie imprint’s line of releases is the 3rd vinyl to come out on Nerang Recordings, NRNGVA003. A 6-track 12” EP featuring a variety of impressive artists including Ray Kandinski, Gallery S, Anthony Fade, DJ Bowlcut, DJ Longdick and DOS (soundcloud), whose track we are featuring. The 2nd track on the A side comes from the Austrian lo-fi magician, who smashes it with an outstanding home hitting raw anthem called Guaca. If you love raw house music that’s packed full of emotion like we do then this whole EP is for you, with Guaca being the cream of the crop. Like in his other material, the drums alone are absolutely outstanding and really bring the track to life while its deep ear-worming pads and chords present an addicting rhythm leaving you wanting more. Typical DOS. This is one 12” you shouldn’t wait to get your hands on.

Quartet Series (soundcloud) emerged last year, a seriously good label with a not so serious aesthetic. Nachtbraker first foray into label management was warmly received. They allowed a whole host of established and new producers show their ‘good’ and ‘bad’ side on 4 track comic strip themed vinyl releases. There are many tracks from the 4 releases that float my boat, namely the Ponty Mython, Loz Goddard, Saine and Darko Kustura cuts.

There are labels out there that take themselves a little too seriously so when Quartet series came along, it was like a breath of fresh air. You can tell that a lot of time, effort and love has gone into this project; from the full sleeve artwork and inserts to the actual quality of the music and A&R.

[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/premiere-scott-franka-toenail”/]

The next chapter of the Quartet Series story starts with a solo artist EP by relative newcomer Scott Franka (soundcloud) entitled “The Gym”. The track we are premiering today is called Toenail.

Scott’s beats sound like they have been ever-present at the gym, the kick drum has some muscle mass behind it, the clap is meaty and the hats sound larger than life. By contrast, the arps that greet you within the first minute are dreamy and light. This really is a track with impressive synth work, face-melting chord pads, gritty acid style lines, fresh-as-fuck melodies and a host of clever panned effects. The track holds it’s real power in the lower end of the spectrum, glimpses of the bass tease you until around 2 minutes. This is where the full bass sucker punch hits you square in the chest! TKO! Sensory overload! A club stomper, one for the peak time bruisers. Scott Franka is now on my radar and I suggest you stick him on yours too.

The Gym is due out on 12 “20th March. Pre-order it via Juno
