Reformed Society joins the roster of Brussel’s, Belgium’s Basic Moves this June with a 2×12’’ EP, comprising six original compositions from the New Delhi born now Barcelona based artist.

After developing a friendship and sharing music in recent years, Basic Moves boss Walrus welcomes Indian artist Harsh Puri onto the imprint for a special double pack vinyl release. The material was gradually reduced down to the six compositions that make up BM19 after received over a hundred demo tracks from Harsh the past few years. Much of the release is inspired by UK tech house of the late nineties and the turn of the millennium and embraces a heads down, dance floor focused aesthetic throughout.

Opening the release is ‘Constant State Of Hustle’, perfectly setting the tone with an amalgamation of bubbling synthesizer tones, a choppy bass groove, sporadic pads and a heavily swung drum groove. ‘Touch’ then shifts focus over to fluttering stab sequences, bright chords, airy strings and a crunchy rhythm section before ‘Hammer The Keys’ embraces the core essence of the early Tech House sound, fusing organic percussion with multilayered machine funk melodies, all infused with an underlying acid feel.

Next up is ‘Hug Pit’ which dives into deep realms via ethereal, cinematic pad textures, wandering resonant synth lines and shuffled drums. The aptly named ‘Adrenaline Rush’ follows next, picking up the pace again courtesy of a gnarly bass melody, squelchy synth tones and a robust drum machine workout. ‘Dream Shuttle’ then rounds out the release, employing hazy atmospheric textures and a bumpy bass groove alongside dynamic, crisp drums.

Basic Moves 17 reignites the Brussels–New York connection with an EP from Reade Truth (Path, Planet E, Sonic Groove) under his Fiction Life guise, comprising six original Techno cuts from the now Berlin-based producer and DJ.

‘’One of New York’s early pioneers of techno and DJ culture, Reade Truth has been an integral part of the cities’ techno history. His first of over two dozen releases came out in 1994 on the Brooklyn underground acid label, Direct Drive. Since then, his releases have made many a mark on labels like Path, Sonic Groove, Planet E and more.’’

Across the ‘Basic Moves 17’ release, Reade delivers a selection of psychedelia infused techno cuts featuring vocals from the man himself on the downbeat opener “Social Overload” which lays down skippy, frenetic drums with eerie synth lines and gritty bass stabs before ‘Soul To Soul’ as the name would suggest showcases the soul of the Techno sound with intricate melodies, acid bass grooves and dynamic percussion. Classic Track “Power of Ideas” follows next, reworked from his 1998 1st Qtr EP, fusing dubbed-out string sequences, squelchy acid licks over a crisp house groove.

The c-side opens with ‘Cerebrum Crush’, fuelled by tumbling bass flutters, murky stabs and heavily swung drums before ‘The Present Moment’ merges unfurling synth melodies with vacillating bass notes and saturated drums. “From the Ashes” rounds out the release with hypnotic female vocals from guest Natasha Romanova, trippy off-beat stabs, expansive synth echoes and organic percussion throughout.

Basic Moves boss Walrus and Colombian artist Adi’s new imprint For Playful Manners returns this June with its second release, coming from Lisbon’s Penelope and Lima’s Ludovic.

For Playful Manners” is a new label run by Raquel Rivera-Lys aka Adi from Colombia and Basic Moves head honcho Michiel Claus aka Walrus from Brussels. Dreamt up spontaneously during a shared afternoon of listening to music in Berlin, the label’s manners centre on the feelings of friendship and fun in music, though its feet are always itching for the dancefloor and its various scenarios, while its head is turned firmly towards the future. Crisp music is the message every time, with each split EP also thoughtfully balanced: male/female, machine/soul, robot/alien, flower/tree… The artwork takes the form of a puzzle, which has to be solved to discover the tracks and their makers. Let’s play!

Second release on “For Playful Manners” label. This time around we present to you Penelope and Ludovic who share roots in the same culture but have been influenced by different surroundings in a lifetime journey. Keeping it warm and playful they deliver dancefloor heat as well as trippy sounds that will lock you in the groove !

Taking his place in the great Swiss electronic tradition – peopled by the likes of Carlos Peron, Boris Blank and Grauzone, to name just a few – the Swiss DJ and producer Walid reaches new heights with his highly anticipated proto-techno project “Child of the Waves“.

These 7 unreleased tracks could be the soundtrack of a B-movie thriller from the 80s. The compositions are full of imagery, using cinematic samples tp stimulate the mind’s eye. He makes strong aesthetic moves, choosing to reinforce rather than attenuate the tension and intensity of his themes: the fear of the unknown, of getting lost and of loneliness; a rage for life and hedonism; and above all the darkness of the human psyche.

Mike DMA’: “For me, his music recalls the atmosphere I experienced in Zurich in the 80s, sometimes icy, withdrawn, even hostile, but also in the image of Walid himself: reserved, mysterious yet also generous. It’s all in his music!

Just when you think you are in familiar waters, you listen a little more and realise you very much are not. There’s a je-ne-sais-quoi that makes things different and special in his compositions. They sit at the intersection of many genres and sound incredibly fresh to our ears.

After several well-received releases under his various aliases, many of us in this milieu were impatiently waiting for him to strike again and confirm the potential already revealed in his previous productions. With this new release, this has been achieved! For me, he is undoubtedly one of the best-kept treasures in the Swiss vaults and an artist to be watched very closely in the coming years.”

Colombian artist ADI delivers her debut album via Belgium’s Basic Moves this November, comprised of eight original compositions.

Hailing from Bogotá, Colombia, ADI has steadily developed a reputation as a driving force for raw, stripped-back electronic sounds on her home turf and across the globe. In 2018 ADI launched Automagically alongside partner Theories, a platform for music and art that has welcomed and collaborated with artists like Unai Trotti, Francesco Del Garda, Audio Werner and many more. Here we see ADI delivering her debut album via Belgium’s Basic Moves, a project that’s been two years in the making and was born out of a friendship between label boss Michiel Claus aka Walrus, the pair initially met while he was on tour in Colombia and again when ADI toured Europe, the pair have been developing this album ever since.

Across the eight track collection, which will come as a 2×12’’ and 7’’ vinyl release, ADI delivers the culmination of all of her musical experiences over the years.

Opener ‘Output’ sets the tone with warbling synth line, bumpy off-kilter drums and hazy atmospherics. ‘Break It Down For You’ follows next fusing skippy jazz leaning drums with spoken word vocals and a gritty bass hook. May 1 Loop 111 follows next, which ADI explains is like ‘a word game and reflects the feeling of being looped within ones self (habits, mindsets, thoughts). ‘Indefinite Recession’ follows, laying down an IDM tinged five and half minute, piecing together dynamic drums, winding resonant synths and choppy bass stabs.

‘Mad Love’ follows next, again exploring ADI’s more jazz-tinged minimal aesthetic via skippy broken drums, warbling Rhodes and spoken word voices. ‘War Outside’ follows, retaining a similary stripped-back aesthetic with hazy ethereal pads, low-slung percussin and intricately evolving melodies. Up first on to the 7’’ part of the release is ‘Over’ a nod to instrumental hip hop with dusty breaks, chopped samples and mind altering melodies before ‘Beginning’ wraps things up courtesy of warped subs, crunchy drums and an amalgamation of tripped-out jazz samples.

Following up after the recent Circadian Rhythms release is Sebastian S under his Caustic 14 alias with a yummy yummy double 12” six tracker full of speedy bleep science breakbeat and colorful jungle techno compositions that could only be made in BRUXHELL (aka Brussels). The selection is a patchwork of various unreleased works from around 1993 to 1996.A silent witness of these rave-days said the following about the production process of the tracks on this new Basic Moves release:“We were eager to share our individual sound universes with each other and see where it would take us. These compositions emerged during many sleepless nights spent watching videos of science fiction series such as Babylon 5 or Star Trek, scrutinising each episode while composing.”
