Adam Pits is back with his second album on Leeds based On Rotation ‘Synthetic Serenity’ represents the next evolutionary step of Adam’s sound design and direction. In stark contrast to his first album, ‘A Recurring Nature’, this new release moves out of the forest and into the digital landscape, capturing the sound of a future world over 8 varied tracks.

Adam Pits talks about the inspiration behind the new album:

“It’s hard to put into words how much of an impact 2022 had on my life. I could talk for hours about the highs and lows, the journeys, both inside and out of my body. Or I could just make an album.

Having delved into the deeper reaches of techno and ambient, I wanted to show my appreciation for these genres on the record. Atmosphere, clarity and warmth became the pillars of my new sonic exploration, with stress falling on my signature ‘journeying’ style. The album describes the idea of being at peace with machines and being open to the idea that in the future we will find ourselves more and more involved with one another.

‘Synthetic Serenity’ is a product of a big energy release. It’s a testament to my acceptance of change in life and I believe it’s a true sign of my sonic evolution”

Slamming onto your summer spectrum clad in the rarest synthesized silks and ready to get down low, Das Spezial present three heaters and two panel beaters transmitting from somewhere way out on the horizon.

‘Sophia’ is the grungiest gear the Speziales have cooked up to date, laden with crushing layers of Buchla-generated waveforms contorting before your ears, stepping to you hard on the 100 BPM tip and beefed up in the low end for a frankly devastating end result.

By comparison ‘Nahid’ reaches skyward in a euphoric suite of arps moving in intricate formations and cracking round the edges. Not so much a case of hands in the air but more head in the clouds, with a dramatic narrative which builds into a knee-buckling drop to make the masses hit the deck with the sheer joy of it all.

Giving you the synth-noir soundtrack fantasy 80s Zimmer could have only dreamt of, ‘Shayar’ hits hard from the outset with a set piece geared towards high tension and hard-bitten protagonists doing dreadful things, but feeling guilty about it deep down inside.

There’s more than enough welly in the original productions to make an adventurous body jerk, but to indulge the more pronounced dancefloor tendencies of Das Spezial, imperious US producer Matrixxman is on hand with two monumental versions of ‘Sophia’. The ‘Medusa Mix’ is a pitch-perfect blend of EBM seduction and acid immersion – all throbbing bass lines and concrete slabs of staccato drum pressure coming on tough and teasing into a proto-trance pulse as the filter on the 303 opens up. By way of contrast, the ‘Cyborg Mix’ turns up the heat and dials in some swing for a tense, absolutely locked-on techno work out for those who like their nihilistic machine music to still be funky as hell.

This exclusive re-edit sees Freeride Millenium boss and respected DJ/producer Jorkes reinvent a cult gem from German language queer band, Rosenstolz. Rosenstolz were a Berlin duo operating through the 90s and 00s and this song, ’Sex Im Hotel’ brings together their sex positive attitude with a real feel for their political outlook. This is something that obviously resonates with Jorkes, a continual crusader for sexual and social positivity and a much loved face in Europe’s queer music scene. Jorkes’ Freeride Millenium label has been a beacon of quality music over recent years with contributions from the likes of Benjamin Frohlich, Hard Ton nd_baumecker, Rotciv and many more.

The imprint was also behind the charity compilation ‘Queer Base’ which was hugely critically acclaimed and raised money for the charity of the same name in Jorkes’ adopted home of Vienna. For this Rosenstolz remix, Jorkes twists up the original in sea of squelchy acidic lines, providing a perfect new sound-bed for the distinctive vocals of Rosenstolz’s AnNa R. With bright chords, pumping rhythms, and gripping bass lines, the fast-rising talent Aldonna emerges from Melbourne’s underground with her ‘Morph’ EP, including remixes from Alex Kassian and Marli, set for release via the always reliable HOMAGE label.

Having cut her teeth in Melbourne’s lively community with her party series Re-Leaf and as a fixture on the Australian club circuit, Aldonna’s sound is clearly supercharged with dancefloor energy. And her passion hasn’t gone unnoticed. Cosigns from the likes of BICEP, who tapped her to contribute to their acclaimed ‘Feel My Bicep’ mix series, prove she’s been an artist to watch for some time. Now with her debut EP, she introduces her own distinct sound which traverses seamlessly through nostalgic trance motifs and hyper ravey breaks. Aldonna is clearly making a push to be an unstoppable force in clubland.

The EP leads off with ‘Nights In Shizuoka’ and a rugged rhythm laying the foundation for arpeggiated synths building until a mystical pan flute carries the ballad to heavenly heights. Throughout the release, Aldonna showcases a knack for playing with a multitude of sonic textures, and the next track titled ‘Air Sign’ possesses layers of immersive textures, from tight acid lines to bubbling ambiance, haunting vocal chops, and warm emotive melodies layered over pumping breaks for an ecstatic anthem. The a-side concludes with ‘For All That We Know’ as a tight bass line sets the stage for Aldonna to build on her playful aesthetic with a shimmering and exuberant melody.

On the flip side, Aldonna goes full rave mode with ‘The Empress’ Acid Line’, leading with chopped breaks before an infectious acid riff creeps and builds with seductive vocals, delivering massive energy that is palpable. Following the originals is a remix by Berlin-based Love On The Rocks mainstay Alex Kassian who aims his version of ‘The Empress’ Acid Line’ at the most euphoric dancefloor moments and delivers a tried and true trancey euro-house weapon not to be overlooked. Rounding out the release is Melbourne’s own Marli who flips ‘Air Sign’ with a rumbling bass line to reveal a bumping house cut that will satisfy the most vibrant crowds in the dance.

Whenever you are in search of squelching 303 basslines, Posthuman’s Balkan Recordings is a likely record digging destination. Here you will find well-known names such as Luke Vibert, DMX Krew and Mark Archer to name a few. The duo is responsible for spearheading the UK acid house scene for over two decades, consistently underlining the timelessness of acid music. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the output of their label is truly exceptional acid in all its derivatives.

For the next release on Balkan Vinyl, London-based producer Tsuin makes his return to the label with a two-track EP entitled Milk It. Much like Tsuin’s last appearance on Balkan Vinyl, on their Metro Jax III compilation, the Milk It EP features catchy vocal sampling as well as a commanding and squelching acid bassline, in true Balkan Vinyl fashion. The flip side of the two track EP is Bucky Bourgeois (Acid Lovers Mix), a straight to the point acid banger, with a distinct nod to classic acid house. Mid-way through the track, a well-structured tension creating break builds up to release back into familiar territory.

The 9th release on Lisbon’s dance agitators Rave Tuga is on the way: an EP, available on tape and digital by local mainstay DIOGO, who’s been loyally serving the dancefloors of Lisbon in the past few years via his sick DJing and productions. Recruits for the remixer role are other two legends of our scene: genius clubkid Ecstasya and spot-on dance composer Moreno Ácido.

Acid and jacking flavours gladly meet again, with an added ray of local sunshine, on the opener ‘Paz d’Alma’. The skillfully programmed 303 lines keep going throughout the album, on the A3 accompanied by a sick electro groove and emotional pads and some bleepy chill-packed vibes on the A4.

The B side switches gears into techno territory, with steady hi hats guiding the groove; relentlessness pervading on ‘Brick & Mortar’. Ecstasya steps in to remix the title track with a dramatic take chock-full of hyperpop stabs, sentimental chipmunk vocals and re-constructed clubby beats, the Lisbon way. Moreno Ácido takes the scenic route with dubbed out harmonies and warm, blissed-out beats and bass.
