Label head Christophe Salin is back on his own imprint which he co-founded with his partner and talented artist Daria Salin several years ago. Starting off by just releasing his own material, the label then shifted to releasing other artists, beginning with a stellar VA and moving on to include now well-known producers such as Sable Blanc, Diamond, Saint Paul and Tour-Maubourg. This is Christophe’s first solo release on his own imprint in two years, entitled “It’s Probably Me”, and it dives deep.

Today we premiere the A2 and title track from the forthcoming record. A classic driving bass, kick and hat combo open up the track as introspective keys slowly creep in. As the piano melody takes centre stage, a haunting, introspective mood is developed while still being carried by the rolling bass beneath it. Salin employs a classic formula to achieve a simple yet supremely emotional track while keeping the sonic textures clean and polished. This one is made for dark and sweaty small rooms in the late night hours. We can’t wait until the opportunity is there to tap our toes to this one in our favourite haunts.

The rest of the EP is no slouch either with some further nods to the classic deep house sound that we know and love, reaching for influences from Detroit to Chicago and beyond. It also includes a stellar remix of the title track by Iron Curtis that’s not to be missed.

Salin Records welcome Tour-Maubourg to the label, a match they dreamed of since hearing his first EP on his home label “Pont Neuf” back in 2017.

Paris-based producer and DJ Tour-Maubourg is an outstanding talent in creating emotions. It is probably exactly that what makes him one of the most promising artists of the Parisian house scene according to Trax Magazine. Through the last year, he was very keen on building up a studio in Paris. His enthusiasm for studio gear leads to a new level of production skills. “Interlude” and “Duophonie (Jazz Mix)” are two perfect examples for the symbiosis of sampling, synthesis and sound design. These two tracks fascinated us with their richness of detail and liveliness, and so we decided to build a whole EP around these beautiful tracks.

Christophe Salin makes his remix debut with his reinterpretation of “Interlude”. After the release of his “You Took My Love EP” in spring 2019 he took the time to rebuild his studio and work on new ways to create sounds and textures. Remixing for one of his most appreciated artists of the current house scene is, without a doubt, the perfect time to release the sound he was working on during the last months.

Daria Salin’s painting speaks louder than any word and reflects the structures and details of Tour-Maubourg’s music.

Sable Blanc is releasing his debut full-length album, “Homecoming”, on Salin Records, also a first for the label itself. Originally slated to be an EP of tracks corresponding to memories of a recent trip to New York, the idea grew into a full-fledged LP as work began. “Homecoming” alludes to returning to New York, a place where the producer spent several years living and forming memories in his teens. Inspired by the colours, energy and peace of the city, Sable Blanc also chose photos taken by his friend that inspired each of the tracks on the album. Salin’s very own Daria Salin then took the photos, developed them as cyanotype (an analogue development technique, same as on the album cover itself) and created a booklet, a special additional feature to the album.

Musically, the album shows a developing maturity in Sable Blanc’s work. Expanding his range to a variety of styles and incorporating new techniques from various genres, the album really is meant to be taken in as one whole listening experience. Today however, we’re premiering just one track off the album, Limo & Theatre. Teaming up with trumpet player Reuben Lewis (you may have heard some of his work via Loure’s output or Australia’s 30/70 collective), together they deliver a laid-back, jazzy tune meant to be taken in within a relaxing environment. Nestled among the crispy drums and alluring trumpets are some breezy and carefree keys that really help to transport your mind on a journey. We can see this one being taken in with headphones, sitting in a high-rise while watching the life on busy streets of New York buzz by down below.

Limo & Theatre isn’t the only superb track on the album. There are influences ranging from drum and bass to ambient on the record so be sure to grab your copy and sit down with a copy of the photo pamphlet and take it all in as it’s meant to be. Salin Records is a platform for art and electronic music run by Daria Salin (visual artist) and Christophe Salin (music), based in Lübeck/Germany. The name “Salin” was chosen because the original idea of this project was born on the saline beaches. Up until this point, the label has exclusively been releasing music from Christophe, but that will all change with their forthcoming EP titled Beyond Salty Island. For the talented couple, this record marks a point in which they will travel beyond their home and invite other artists to join them for a beautiful journey through house music. The journey will be taking an adventurous lot all across Europe with the help of handy tour guides Eddi Shkiper from Siberia; Gledd from Italy; and Christophe himself (Germany).

However, for our expedition to begin, we must first set sail. For this task, the Salins have entrusted Sable Blanc, who will take us to the beaches of his home country (France) with his original track titled Gentle Washing.  As the title suggests, this tune will leave your body, mind, and soul feeling cleansed with Mr. Blanc’s pleasant assortment of weightless jazz melodies, bellowing basslines, and dusty percussion that makes one feel as if they’re listening to waves lightly crash onto land. Although I have never been to the beaches of Southern France, I cannot think of a better tune to soundtrack my first experience than this.

The name Christophe Salin may not ring a bell. For the last few years, Christophe has slipped largely under the radar. But that is about to change. After launching Salin Records with his wife Daria Salin, the German producer has been hard at work curating a series of releases establishing the ‘Salin sound’ and paving the way for future Salin Records artists. The forthcoming ‘Will You Be There EP’ is the final instalment of the three-EP series that pays homage to the emotional side of house music.

Sitting on the A1, our premiere ‘To Love’, offers a fitting nod to the city of love itself, offering a charming foray into the French touch soundscape. The track’s percussive, jazz infused opening has a warming innocence to it: reminiscent of an old-fashioned Romantic film or a busker bringing life to a park on a winter evening. Salin’s production is a skilful exercise in the art of simplicity. In the first breakdown, a melancholy saxophone washes over a soft piano, before being joined by some heartening drums and a hazy vocal. The same four elements are used throughout the track, but with a certain thoughtfulness and delicacy that ensures they never overstay their welcome.  It seems as though each element of the track is in conversation with the others, working together to evoke memories and emotions that remind us what it is ‘to love’.

The emotive, jazz-infused atmosphere is sustained across the whole EP. It’s rare to find a 6-tracker that is best digested in one sitting, but listening to the ‘Will You Be There EP’ from start to finish is a rewarding, cathartic journey. This is an EP that is more fitting for the AUX on a solo late night drive than the club. It may not have been intended as so, but this is driveway music at its best: tunes that you continue to listen to well after parking your car, extending those few precious moments of solitude.
