After debuting as Pool Boy in 2018, Canadian producer Cyril Hahn is back with his second record under the newer moniker. Rising to prominence via some pitch shifted and earworm-y remixes almost a decade ago, his sound began to naturally evolve in the studio. Thus, Pool Boy was born. His identity started to take on more of a sun-kissed and bubbly persona, perhaps even taking influence from some of Vancouver’s west-coast sound pioneers such as the Mood Hut crew.

Pool Boy’s debut came on London’s Coastal Haze, an apt home for his new vibrant and sometimes off-kilter sound. His follow-up comes on French imprint Noire et Blanche, sub-label of Délicieuse Records, who themselves have been quiet for a couple of years. “All Inclusive” is the title and would be the perfect record to listen to while sipping on a tropical drink and laying on the beaches of a resort down south. Something tells us he had the same idea.

Our premiere today is “Pool House” which features another Canadian and Coastal Haze alum, Pacific Coliseum. Perhaps the most upbeat track on the record, it’s also a little more versatile, fitting both in a nice warm-up set or just during a listening session. The rubbery bassline and harder hitting claps give it more of a clubby flair while the overall ambience itself is easygoing. Moody synths add to the already emotional atmosphere set by the chords.

The rest of the album trends to a brighter sound and we highly recommend a listen to it all in one go as it’s a perfect warm weather appetizer. To top it off there’s also a little remix package featuring Khotin, Gooch and Domenique Dumont. Be sure to get your hands on this one!

For their second release, Oath welcomes Berlin–based producer Moomin; who brings forward a three-track EP entitled ‘The Snoofer’. Alongside three original tracks, UK producer Seb Wildblood also provides a remix for ‘For Willow’.

The title track, ‘The Snoofer’, wades through squelching percussion and deep swinging grooves as underlying synth-lines remain marching alongside locked kicks and fluctuating bass.

Arriving at ‘For Willow’, Moomin delivers a hazy, serene Hang Drum melody that tumbles and fades away, opening space for wispy pads and steady drum furrows.

Multiple label head and mainstay UK producer, Seb Wildblood, known for his distinct house style; offers up a soothing remix for ‘For Willow’. Steeped in warmth, the track sways back and forth from the blanket of pads to the syncopated rhythms of the instrumentation.

For ‘Breathe’, we see Moomin layering arpeggios and live drum cadences that seem to melt and mould together, floating and falling yet unwavering and firm.

One of the most important people in my life name is Sue. She is kind, she is warm and ever relaxed. Now I’m almost certain that Australian expat Jad & The doesn’t know her personally, however he’s crafted a record that’s a reminder of all the amazing things she’s done for me.

At Bolting Bits, we’ve always been loyal fans of Jad & The’s productions. Having previously dropped EP’s on classy imprints such as Toy Tonics, FINA Records and his very own Beats Of No Nation, he has now linked up with Julius Steinhoff, owner of Down By The Lake. As release No.4 on the label Jad grabs a spot by the still waters alongside Saile, Ron Blanco and TRP.

Our attention is set firmly on the A1 ‘Two Dancing’, a beautiful ride. Melding a stunning piano scale, steady kick drum, hypnotic hi-hats and a vocal snatch that sounds like my godmother’s name, we have a tune that should cast your mind back to fond memories…whatever they may be? The Aussie has an obvious knack for writing, selecting but a handful of instruments and somehow always stringing them together in harmony. I bet this would go down an absolute treat at a wedding reception for a couple’s first dance. They’d of course have to be lovers of house music but hey aren’t we all.

Hop to it as this one’s a vinyl only release with a sterling Moomin remix of the B2 ‘Archy Krules’.

Le natif de Paris n’en est pas à ses premières armes. Après avoir signé plusieurs EPs sur le très bon label californien Material Image, sa dernière sortie est parue chez Lobster Theremin. Mélodieux, planant, spatial tout en restant rough, ses productions allant de l’ambient à la deep house en passant par Chicago et Detroit ne laissent pas indifférent.

Avec Way Silent, on commence sur le rythme rapide du titre éponyme. 125BPM dans la vue avec ce voyage teinté de soul, et des drums terriblement efficaces. On reprend notre souffle avec le morceau tout acidulé Éloge de l’oisiveté, en se laissant aller au son du clavier de Royer. Enfin, on termine cette croisière sur 30min, titre plein d’énergie avec son kick puissant et ses envolées de synthés. Un rythme décomposé qui fera le bonheur des aficionados des contre temps.

Un joli comeback donc du label de Moomin et ses 3 nouveaux titres. Avec une house lo-fi qui apporte un rythme particulièrement efficace, cet EP, vecteur de sourire dans votre boite à musique, est à utiliser sans modération !
