Cinthie’s 803 Crystal Grooves Collective Cuts returns this June with a fresh four-track EP from S3A aka Sampling As An Art.Parisian producer and DJ S3A has been releasing his take on soul-infused, sample heavy electronic music over the past decade via imprints such as Syncrophone’s Phonogramme, Lazare Hoche Records, 4Lux and Dirt Crew where he dropped his debut album. Here after the success of his debut LP ‘Pages’ and the ‘92’ Anthem’ track, which featured on the inaugural Collective Cuts release alongside music from Asquith, KETTAMA and 9th House, S3A returns to the imprint to conclude the story of his half acoustic half electronic album with the ‘« Pages » Epilogue’ EP.

Opening the EP is ‘Ill ‘heritage’, fuelled by a swinging drum groove, an amalgamation of soulful vocal samples, classic house stabs and brass licks before ‘Yellow’ follows next, embracing a contrasting aesthetic via crunchy modulating drums, squelchy acid bass tones and resonant synth chimes.

Opening the flip-side is ‘Second Hit’, a high octane rave-tinged cut featuring an amalgamation of chopped piano’s, vocals, old school stabs and sturdy bass. Following is ‘Joint 6’ which edges things into more soulful territories bringing into focus warbling Rhodes, natural bass tones and jazzy drums. ‘DX1 Joint’ then completes the package on a similar tip, courtesy of a bumpy drum groove, funk-infused bass and twinkling keys.

Cinthie’s 803 Crystal Grooves Collective Cuts returns this May with its second release, a split-EP from Anaxander and Azuni.

The 803 Crystal Grooves Collective cuts label was launched in 2019 by Cinthie as a platform for material from her collective of friends and producers she admires. The project was launched with a four-track VA featuring S3A, 9th House, KETTAMA and Asquith and here we see two new additions to the roster in the shape of France Anaxander and Azuni aka Washerman.

Anaxander leads with ‘For Cinthie’, fusing crunchy reverberated rhythms and bumpy bass hits with wandering, dynamic synth sequences and snaking resonant melodies. Azuni’s ‘Uranus’ follows next, perfectly weaving together airy dub chords, ethereal strings and a robust drum groove.

The second contribution from Azuni opens the flip side, entitled ‘Orkus’ and retaining a similarly dub-leaning aesthetic but embracing a more refined and reduced feel with a focus on subtle nuances of winding stab hits and a bouncy rhythm. Anaxander’s ‘Blackalitt’ then rounds out the release, switching things up to focus distorted, off-kilter percussion alongside an amalgamation of chopped vocal chants and classic rave stabs.

A native of Galway, KETTAMA has spent the past couple of years rising through the tricky ranks of the Irish electronic music scene with his multiple residencies on the West and East coasts. However, his biggest claim to fame so far has been the online presence he has built across a range of different music communities online. What has happened since has been nothing short of breathtaking; his blend of hefty kicks with catchy riffs and stabs has given the house world a new ‘one to watch’ and he has certainly given everyone a good show to look at thus far.

Last year being his best year to date with his release of Bucklyn Bridge on Brookyln’s HOMAGE, KETTAMA has no intention of slowing down in 2019. Joining the likes of powerhouses such as Demuja, Adryiano, Loods, and Harrison BDP, KETTAMA has recently decided to collaborate with UK label Shall Not Fade to come out with a new record titled Eastside Avenue.

Today, we are sharing one of the originals from the 4 track EP and it’s called “Falling Down.” Featuring generous applications of floor shattering bass and old-school Acid house synth work, the Irish lad is able to put together a high-energy chune that has “peak time” written all over it. We do not always post bangers of this variety on Bolting Bits, but when we do, they are usually top notch…and this certainly lives up to the standard.
