Dirt Crew have a very special new artist for you from Berlin. Dutch native Pete Bandit relocated to Berlin some years ago where they first met in 2018 when he was part of the “Times Are Ruff” collective. They contributed a track on Dirt Crew for our “Deep Love 2018” compilation. Now recently going solo he developed his sound even more towards Detroit-ish house with dabs of techno and a bit of high tech jazz in there as well. This debut EP offers Loads of deep soulful grooves, spiritual “computer” music at it’s best!

The A-side “Wild Feelings” is such a beautiful opener to this record, with it’s lush spread out intro it paves the way with that perfect mood for what is to come, a mix of soul, funk and electronics and overall well crafted deepness. The keys on this one were contributed by the mysterious “Nelson of the East” topped with vocals by Pete himself. “It’s Happening Again” continues the story with soulful deep house textures and this one especially reminds us a lot of those early 90s Chicago/ New York House gems, the track is building towards a great breakdown key change and with its atmospheric strings and pads it’s a truly uplifting “Good Times” tune.

On the flip we have “Computer’s Creativity”. This track picks up the pace and is centered around a funky, almost slap like, bass line. Here again topped by a vocal add of Pete about “Computer’s Creativity” and with it’s cool break this one will also be a sure floor filler, guaranteed! The closing track on this record is the driving “Luv Your Body”, great percussion guides us through a loose set arrangement and make this one a perfect late hours or early mornings tune in any mix, it could go on forever!

Hot on the heels of his recent ‘Freedom Unfolding’ release, praised by Raresh, Sasha, Laurent Garnier, Vladimir Ivkovic and Dorian Paic, Italian-born tastemaker David Agrella is back on his Agrellomatica imprint with more intergalactic fire.

This time, the London-based selector serves up four groove-laden cuts across ‘Flowing’, including remixes from Woop Records’ Ben Hauke and Into The Wizards’ Sleeve’s Mr Barcode. Title track ‘Flowing’ is a cosmic voyage peppered with glossy pads, eerie synths and sharp percussion, before Agrella’s own ‘Sabotage Mix’ throws in deep, driving tones, subtle robotic vocals, and interstellar keys.

On the flip, Ben Hauke delivers a dubbed-out reshape, harnessing fluttering echoes, emotive harmonies and deep basslines. To close, Mr Barcode provides a punchy electro remix, as warped samples and driving low-ends get down in this slice of dancefloor mania.

London producer, DJ, and synthesizer engineer Hugo Massien today joins the roster of artists on Dirtybird’s White Label with the release of his new EP, ‘Fast Forward’.

The 5th release on the series following recent EPs including Nikki Nair’s ‘More Is Different’, to Ivy Lab’s ‘Press Play’, the Dirtybird White Label continues to venture into more left of center/underground sounds. Launched in 2021, the label set out a simple mission with their new arm: to defy expectations of the current sound and continue its ethos as a formidable tastemaker, now with a new release from deep tech producer Hugo Massien.

In similar fashion with previous releases on the White Label, Hugo delivers four gems across a myriad of genres throughout the four track EP. From the melodic break of “Fast Forward” to the dream state mood of “Dynamic Symmetry”, the lo-fi bass of “Quantum Mechanics”, and sublime “Astral State”, the EP shows versatility and the undeniable talent across his productions.

The ‘Fast Forward’ EP marks Hugo’s debut on Dirtybird, which happened organically through label boss Claude VonStroke following the producer’s sound throughout the pandemic, particularly his stellar debut album Metamorphosis. It comes as no surprise that Hugo is a synthesizer engineer at equipment manufacturer Novation, having a deep and impressive knowledge of their pdirtroducts and incorporating them into the EP.

“I made all of the tracks in my home studio throughout 2021 during various periods of that very unique year. The tracks are all sequenced in Ableton Live, using a combination of Novation Peak, Novation Bass Station, Xfer Serum and Spectrasonics Omnisphere”, said Hugo in regards to the EP. “The most interesting synth element on the EP is the bassline in Quantum Mechanics. It’s made by cranking the resonance of a low pass filter up super high and then modulating the cutoff in all kinds of crazy ways. It makes me visualize a dancing flubber-like jelly”, he added.

Having first released in 2014, Hugo quickly built a legion of fans who absolutely loved his bass heavy breaks, drawing on influences from his early rave days where dubstep reigned supreme in the UK’s nightclubs. By 2018 he had released a winning string of EPs on various imprints including XL Recordings, Keysound, 17 Steps, Unknown to the Unknown and E-Beamz (home to DJ Seinfeld, DJ Boring, & more). Hugo’s tracks are a fixture in the sets of highly respected tastemakers including Roman Flugel, TEED, and Ben UFO to name a few.

The release of the new EP, ‘Fast Forward’’ will be available on March 4th via Dirtybird’s White Label Series as well as the signature white vinyl with original Dirtybird logo that Claude VonStroke drew by hand many decades ago.

Born in Marseille, but based out of London, Pegasvs is an artist many in the underground have gotten to know well over the years. We ourselves have routinely collaborated with the multifaceted producer – either imploring him to expertly craft mixes for our listeners or partnering with him to promote his own tracks and music.

During the time we’ve known Pegasvs, the French maestro has gone onto establish his imprint Burnin’ Music Records as a dependable and timely fixture that has put out releases from artists such as Salomo, Tryezz, and Pegasvs himself.

In their latest outing, the label has chosen to put out a single from little known producer Hotevilla, who also hails from France and occasionally operates under the moniker Kalk. Titled Until Dawn, this original kicks things off with an undeniably catchy, looped vocal that sustains itself throughout the piece – giving it an uplifting, almost anthemic feel from start to finish. Hoteville then mimics the likes of other artists such as Moon Boots, by layering on top a space-aged assortment of playful synths, funky bass and airy strings that transform Until Dawn into quite the luxurious affair fit for any rooftop soiree.

Up next on Heist Recordings is an undercover project of a well-known producer who decided it was time to experiment, broaden his sound and produce music without the expectation that comes with an established name. Lore of the Samurai delivers an expertly crafted record with classic Chicago influences, hints of electro and up-tempo technoid house.

EP opener, ‘City Loop,’ is a house track with that classic house feel, thanks to its moody sample loops, background chants and energetic percussion. The strings and simplistic piano work are true to form and make for an altogether enticing opener. ‘Deeper Into Orbit’ has the roughness of some of the most praised productions out of Chicago, and a swing that is reminiscent of an old Boo Williams track. The surprise cut of the pack is definitely ‘Space Designer’. It’s an up-tempo affair with syncopated bass working together with a classic Marimba loop and percussion that makes you want to dance, dance, dance.

‘Alpha Base’ delves deep in electro territory with boombap drum programming, while still taking inspiration from classic deep house elements like its chords and sample hits. Watch out for that bass-arpeggio-break, it’s killer. EP closer ‘Justifice’, is as smooth as a deep house track can be with lovely, filtered chords and massive vocal sent through a vocoder that would have made Zapp & Roger proud. The whole EP has a great groove, and you can hear the craftmanship just oozing out your speakers. In short, an essential package with something for everyone.
