Hailing from Malmö, Sweden, Bolting Bits regular Emil Sune has found a way to keep himself busy while most artists’ creativity has stalled throughout the pandemic. Having just launched his sub-label Mostly Cozy in February (which already has 3 releases to its name), Sune has somehow managed to set aside time in his hectic schedule to work on his own music. Arguably his most ambitious effort yet, the producer has chosen to team up with the legendary New York record label Let’s Play House for a second time to release his LP Everything is Fine.

The record is a proper full-length and contains 10 infectious tunes that showcase the sort of jazz-infused house melodies we’ve grown to recognize Sune by. Although it’s difficult for us to pick our favorite of the bunch, we have decided to premiere his lead track Expertis.

Whimsical in its temperament, this original utilizes an assortment of looped synths and percussion as its anchor and playfully builds upon these elements throughout its entirety. Before you know it, Sune’s layered basslines and arpeggiated chords gradually get your head nodding and body grooving – whetting the appetite in anticipation of what’s to come next. This comforting arrangement of sounds perfectly encapsulates this album’s core message and the timeliness in which it’s written. Sometimes you just need someone to tell you, “Everything is fine…everything is fine.” And given the year we all just had, this is precisely the energy we need right now.

Everything is Fine can be streamed in full here. The vinyl is set to hit stores June 8th!

Colton R. May, better known by his stage name fleet.dreams, is an up-and-coming producer who recently moved to the bustling city of Brooklyn, New York. Having spent the previous two years in Detroit, honing his skills as a DJ while studying from the likes of Rick Wilhite, Norm Talley, Marcellus Pittman and Dez Andrés, fleet.dreams was destined for big things in 2020. However, when he arrived at his new home, much of the city was entering lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic – putting much of his plans on hold. Stuck inside and away from the dancefloor, May had ample time to meditate and imagine a world where we could chase our dreams once again.

His latest effort Return of the Dreamer is the result of this meditation. The 4-track EP is the second from his cassette imprint Leopard Cage, and a follow-up to last December’s incredible vocal house mission statement Selph Luv. The lead track from the record, titled “Silk Surface (Dub Mix),” is reminiscent of the Balearic, lo-fi house grooves that marked the scene around 2016 with artists such as Patrick Holland fka Project Pablo. Throughout the piece, fleet.dreams works in an assortment of east coast garage house melodies and expertly combines them with elements of Brazilian jazz that make for a vibe that is both laidback and uplifting.

As we journey back to normalcy this summer, I can’t think of a more fitting soundtrack than Return of the Dreamer. Make sure to grab your copy when hits stores May 28th.

The underground’s premiere beloved edits label, Razor-N-Tape, turns 50. Fifty Discos Deep. That’s the title of their new compilation and also how many releases Brooklyn’s JKriv and Aaron Dae have managed to put together in just 9 years since starting the label, initially a passion project. Calling on the producers and DJs who helped put and keep them on the map, this 3 x 12″ package is a heavyweight affair.

What’s perhaps even more impressive is that the vast majority of the contributors to the compilation are stateside. Aside from Joey Negro (London, UK) and Dimitri from Brooklyn (Paris, France), the rest are based in the US. Despite the recent fad of, dare I say, uninspired disco edits in scenes around the globe, it’s clear that real disco is alive and well in America and is being pushed by the same heads that have been doing it for years and years.

Today, Bolting Bits has the pleasure to present one of the edits on the compilation ahead of its forthcoming release. Underdog Edits aka Leonard Part Sixx from Chicago digs up another unheralded gem from the late 70’s and gives it the dancefloor treatment. This soulful jam is the recipient of some beefed up disco drums and a 7 minute arrangement that turns it into a dancefloor anthem, guaranteed.

The rest of the edits are hot hot hot, coming from long-time dons such as Joey Negro, Dimitri from Paris, Eli Escobar, Jacques Renault and of course label co-head JKriv. But don’t you dare sleep on the others from up-and-comers such as Detroit’s Peter Croce, California’s Daniel T., New York’s Arsenii and Philly duo Superprince. These guys have all been around but maybe don’t quite have the same name recognition just yet.

The release is not only functional but it’s a collector’s item as well with amazing packaging that showcases the whole RNT catalog and a classic Bill Bernstein photo on the cover. Be sure to get your copy once these land in shops around the world.

Following an incredible release earlier this year on Lillerne Tapes Alien D is back. This time on fifteen.pm with 3 more kaleidoscopic journeys to drift away to. Today’s premiere features the track Frog Shirt from the forthcoming Jazzin’ the Cube EP. The track opens with bouncy kick while airy and shimmering synths float above. As the square bass enters the mix, it begins pulsing along as a frog’s neck does while meditating on a lily pad. There are tons of bits of sound to get lost in on Frog Shirt. Alien D illustrates again an ability to make tunes that are both contemplative and groovy – calming to the soul yet makes you want to get up bop around too. It’s this sense of duality and playfulness that makes us stoked for each upcoming release from Alien D.

Postseason Franchise Records steps into 2020 poised to share their first vinyl release from Brooklyn via Sweden duo Rymdeko. Label heads The Space Wanderer and TTilawok recorded Rymdeko in the span of a snowy week at Elektronmusikstudion in Sweden. The EP is a mind-bending journey throughout psychedelic dub techno and beyond. A nod to their shared influences as well as their own solo creations, Rymdeko showcases a refreshingly honest take on techno from two longtime collaborators and friends.

Rymdeko is an exploration of evolving arpeggiated textures and deep minimal grooves. While pulsing bass lines meander the craggy landscape, majestic synth patterns peer through the starlit sky. The deep grooves are both contemplative yet energizing. Ambient textures are balanced with rhythmic groove. It is a track that is as apt for the dance floor as it is the living room. The sense of duality across the entire EP is what makes this project truly special.

Rymdeko drops March 13 worldwide and there will be a limited run of translucent red vinyl available on the Postseason Franchise Records Bandcamp. You can also pick up a copy at select records stores across NYC, LA, and SF.

Today’s premiere comes to you from Brooklyn’s Alien D. The latest release from Lillerne Tapes, Sunday Painting, is a mind-bending journey through pillowy synth textures and kaleidoscopic rhythms. Alien D (aka Stress aka Mr. Aloe) brings a playful approach across the EP. One that is protean in nature from track-to-track, yet shares a common feeling of psychedelic repose.

Our premiere track today off Sunday Painting, “Compassion Track”, begins with a contemplative ambient intro that elicits fractalized imagery and gives way to swooshing downtempo grooves. Swirls of color drip down the canvas and begin to pool towards the bottom like a bubbling caldera. The brush strokes begin freeform, and as the piece continues to take shape, become more angular and defined as percussive wisps pitter-patter in the distance. Alien D creates an empathic listening experience that leaves one with a feeling of connectedness to the world around them. It is a track that suits introspective meditative explorations as much as material heartfelt connection to one’s fellow being.

Sunday Painting is out today on Lillerne Tapes and available via cassette and digital download. Also check out Daniel’s label Sweat Equity for music that showcases the bleeding-edge of NYC electronic music.

New York staple, Let’s Play House, seemingly releases a record every week. And every single one, is pretty much fire. How do they do it? Must be something in the water out here in Brooklyn. For their 19th white label release, LPH gears up to drop a couple of disco house smashers. There’s even some acid in there to boot! This is pure summertime fun ladies and gentleman. A taste of rave culture with a touch of disco fervor.[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/unknown-artist-liwando-jacques-renault-bk-club-version/” /]
LPH label head Jacques Renault is a seasoned producer that’s been known to strike a spark or two on the dancefloor. His “BK Club Version” of Liwando is exactly that, a fire starter. The original version feels much more disco, and while Jacques retains many of its best elements, he quiets the congas and adds more of a house touch to his remix. In the best of ways, the club version is heavier, giving proper shine to the joyous M1 riff that never seems to end. This tune is a real floor finisher. Try not to feel f***in’ amazing when you listen to this. I’m writing this at 9:30am and I’m too fired up. I’d karate kick my way through a weak fence right now. Watch out Brooklyn, Jacques let me outta my cage this morning. Let’s Play House white label numero 19 is available now via all trusty online retailers. If you’re in NYC, you’ll definitely find it in local shops. Get out there and grab these guaranteed fire starters.

Following the celebration of the labels 5th anniversary, Brooklyn’s mighty Razor-N-Tape burst into summer with an EP that fuses together: acid house, tropical Brazilian sounds and disco music. Fresh from Rio De Janeiro, this energetic 12” filled with tireless spirit, comes courtesy of the fairly new and always exciting duo Balako. Producers Rodrigo Peirão and Diogo Strausz have composed a vibrant soulful Latin inspired EP that is right on time for summer parties.‘Batuque’, Portuguese for drumming, has a thumping, moody beat that lures you in with crackling Brazilian vocals. But don’t be fooled… In come the 808 claps, synth lines, heavy rides and rim shots. Think Ricardo Villalobos at 6am as the sun rises over a tropical landscape.[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/premiere-balako-honey-honey-honey/” /]
Our premiere ‘Honey Honey Honey‘ starts off sultry and alluring with classic Latin strings over slow blues drums that soon become part of a funky disco anthem all in a flash. The surprising switch in tempo and vibe, represent some characteristics of true Rio life: erratic, tropical and always surprising. Balako showcase their production prowess, using edits of 100% live band recordings that make this foot-stomping body shaking track totally addictive. Not to mention, the raw power coming from the hearty rustic vocals. You will have this one on repeat.. we promise!Somewhere between acid house, disco and Latin American band music, Balako have another great EP under their belt which is sure to make its way onto your summertime playlist. Pre-order here.

Anyone that has been following the underground, deep house scene has probably heard of the Brooklyn based label Super Tuff. Mind you, they have only been around for one year and are run by a single label head M. Vaughn. However, that’s not to say they haven’t made the most of their first couple of releases, coming out with compilations that feature tunes from Bolting Bits faves like Jesse Bru, DJ Aakmael, Luvless and Long Island Sound.

Hellbent on making the most of their fresh start, Super Tuff have decided to come out with their first artist EP – a record that only contains the sublime beats of Bristol native Marcel Lune! (soundcloud) And who better to step up to the task for them? Already making quite the name for himself from the release of his debut album on Local Talk, Mr. Lune continues to formulate a sound on “Family Grooves” that’s more jazz than any of its disco or house elements.

For instance, take his spell-binding, A2 concoction titled You Can Do It! Although the piece contains dance music essentials like wobbling synths and intersecting rhythms of afrobeat percussion, at its core, the seamlessly arranged melodies from Lune’s exuberant jazz piano are what hold everything together – making for an experience that sounds chaotic and structured at the same time. For fans of musicians like Laurence Guy, Crackazat, and Seb Wildblood, this will certainly be your cup of tea!

To pre-order your copy of Family Grooves, follow the link right here!
