Wayward – Calanques (Duke Hugh Remix) [Silver Bear Recordings]

Continuing to build momentum on Rob da Bank’s independent imprint, Silver Bear Recordings, British duo Wayward have returned to offer a compilation of remixes of their February EP ‘Good Afternoon Mr Magpie’. As their name connotes, Wayward’s sound is ethereal and meandering, full of delicate harmonies and textured beats. The original EP captured this essence beautifully, offering five intoxicating and atmospheric cuts.

Remix duties have been left in safe hands, as Big Miz, Duke Hugh, Brame & Hamo, Kincaid & Sinal and Folamour have joined forces with the emerging pair to insert their own dancefloor ready spin on the EP while keeping the vibes of the original intact.

Our premiere is by Dutch artist Duke Hugh, who lends his penchant for earthy percussion to add a floor-filling groove to the more subdued and hypnotic ‘Calanques’. Having previously made waves on Bradley Zero’s Rhythm Section, a label known for its soulful and relaxed beats, Duke Hugh is the perfect match for what is a delightfully warm gem. Starting things off by giving a punchy lift to the intro, Duke weaves in the original dreamy vocal to add a blissed-out warmth to the percussive kicks. The synth lines that drift and dances through the multi-layered groove are a welcomed addition, ushering in the joyful keyboard melody. At the end of the track Duke adds a lively, almost Balearic twist, squeezing the first rays of spring into the staggeringly fun jam in a way that has us yearning for summer already.

You can get your hands on this superb remix package here when it drops on the 27th of April.
