After critically-acclaimed releases on well-established labels such as Pont Neuf, Shall Not Fade and Strctr, Parisian artist Tour-Maubourg enters French label Noire & Blanche with yet another outstanding EP titled ‘Floating On Silence’.

‘Longing For U’ opens up the EP in a beautiful way: Complex drum rhythms are accompanied by smooth instrumentation which enters the track slowly, almost as if the instrumentalists were shy and had to gather their courage – until the saxophone takes over and plays a buoyant solo just before the 4 minutes mark.

‘I Wanna’ is centered around a swung jazz drum beat and sleek bassline played by a double bass while various playful synthesizer melodies join the track here and there and some vocal bits can be heard in the far distance.

While the first two tracks have an almost loungey character, track no. 3, ‘Nite People’, gently invites us to the dancefloor. As the four-to-the-floor kick, swung hi-hats and pointy snares unequivocally tell us to shake our hips, the rest of the ‘house band’ take it a bit more slowly – until the 303-style acid synth comes in and shouts “all right, let’s dance!” and the whole track kicks it up a notch.

The title track, ‘Floating On Silence’ represents exactly what made many of us love the music by Tour-Maubourg: It’s super soulful and sexy, with lovely jazzy melodies and an irresistible groove created by the interplay of drums, bass and percussion, foremost the driving conga rhythm. All in all, a very elegant yet dancefloor-ready deep house track.

Out of all tracks on the EP, ‘Mighty Groove’ is definitely the funkiest one. A palm-muted electric guitar, groovy synth stabs, deep bass line and earworm-inducing lead synth have a get together and the drums and percussion glue everything neatly together to round-off this artful EP by Tour-Maubourg.

KX9000 and Tour-Maubourg are Mint Jams. The two rising French producers have combined for a live new disco project with an impeccable vibe. Mintology serves as a mini-LP of sorts; five tracks of heady, low-slung live-instrumentated jams.

Arguably, our favorite tune from the record, “Buenos Notches” is a certified groove that delivers a day-time assortment of funky guitar licks, retro synths, and bonafide bass. Salin Records welcome Tour-Maubourg to the label, a match they dreamed of since hearing his first EP on his home label “Pont Neuf” back in 2017.

Words from the label:

Paris-based producer and DJ Tour-Maubourg is an outstanding talent in creating emotions. It is probably exactly that what makes him one of the most promising artists of the Parisian house scene according to Trax Magazine. Through the last year, he was very keen on building up a studio in Paris. His enthusiasm for studio gear leads to a new level of production skills. “Interlude” and “Duophonie (Jazz Mix)” are two perfect examples for the symbiosis of sampling, synthesis and sound design. These two tracks fascinated us with their richness of detail and liveliness, and so we decided to build a whole EP around these beautiful tracks.

Christophe Salin makes his remix debut with his reinterpretation of “Interlude”. After the release of his “You Took My Love EP” in spring 2019 he took the time to rebuild his studio and work on new ways to create sounds and textures. Remixing for one of his most appreciated artists of the current house scene is, without a doubt, the perfect time to release the sound he was working on during the last months.

Daria Salin’s painting speaks louder than any word and reflects the structures and details of Tour-Maubourg’s music.

Having come out with one of our favorite records from earlier this year (Paso’s Limited Perception), FINA Records are back just a couple months later with another phenomenal release! This time around, label owner Simon Morell has decided to combine forces of two Parisian powerhouses like some sort of mad scientist. The Parisian powerhouses we speak of are none other than the promising lads Armless Kid and Tour-Maubourg, who have been at the forefront of the underground house scene with respective releases on Luke Solomon’s Classic Music Company and Folamour’s FHUO label.

To be honest, we did not know what to expect when we heard the two were coming out with their Espace X EP. Both artists have stylistic tendencies that put them on opposite sides of the spectrum between no-nonsense house and jazz-tinged beats. Fortunately for everyone, this experiment seems to have worked. The EP consists of a total of three tracks – two of which feature both artists.

However, our favorite original from the EP is a full-length track solely produced by Armless Kid. A balls-to-the-wall groover from beginning to end, “The Rebirth” is a certified DJ weapon that is guaranteed to energize any dancefloor where it’s played. Never allowing the upbeat nature of the tune to divulge into a heartless drone of 4/4 beats, Armless Kid does a stellar job of layering soulful vocals throughout the piece to give it “that extra morsel of quality” that comes to define each and every FINA release!

As of late, France has been a hotbed for up-and-coming house and disco labels, releasing some of the grooviest tunes pumped out on dance floors across the globe. Newly minted Groovence is no exception to this, bringing forth their their first label release with a various artists compilation that will leave your head buzzing, heart melting and feet stomping. VA releases can be hit or miss but “The Cosmic Groove EP” lives up to its name with funky, spaced out cuts that will have you calling Houston and assuring them that there is no problem.

Based out of Paris, the vinyl-only label has been releasing an ‘invite’ series of hour long sets to showcase their tastes, with one of the guests being Luvless (soundcloud) who is featured in our premiere today. The release also brandishes powerhouse French producers Ethyène, Tour Maubourg and Twice Movement; each sporting their own quality tracks on the label premiere.

With releases on top notch labels such as Heist Recordings and his own imprint Rose Records, the only non-Frenchman on this compilation continues to churn out top-notch releases. Light and spacey, the track highlights another high class single from Luvless. ‘Heavy Button’ takes you on a 6 minute and 14 second rocket ship journey to the moon and back, zooming above the stratosphere with synths that warble through space and a classy vocal loop that hits the heart but fits gently within the groove. Crisp hi-hats echo throughout the track, bouncing back and forth between the drum beat which has strong hip-hop undertones until it wields that familiar 4×4 kick. Melodic keys swing back and forth keeping you in orbit until the track gently winds down and brings you back into the atmosphere for a smooth and safe landing.

Luvless secures his name on another slice of wax due to a consistency that we’ve come to know and love. Groovence comes out with a strong first showing, adding to an ever-growing list of independent vinyl-only labels in a burgeoning French scene.
