Copenhagen native Wille makes his Tartelet debut with Progressive Balearic, a new EP shaped by the heady rhythms of early progressive house and freewheeling spirit of Balearic culture. Copenhagen born and bred, and a familiar face in the local scene, it was almost inevitable for Wille to end up on Tartelet.

“I’d been searching for that summer record all winter,” says Tartelet head Emil. “Wille sends me these tracks out of the blue. I nearly choked on my coffee and croissant and panic-called him 15 minutes later. Anyone who’s ever sent me a demo knows this is highly unusual behaviour.”

The release introduces a self-coined genre concept: Progressive Balearic. Equal parts proto-progressive, open-air nostalgia and cosmic dancefloor escapism. Think perfect nights that only exist in memory, and a vague but persistent feeling that life might be better if every journey involved a ferry.

Across the EP, psychedelic patterns, emotional chord progressions and hypnotic grooves intertwine with subtle references to mysticism, cosmic exploration and the sort of conversations that only seem completely reasonable at six in the morning.

“I time warped,” Wille says. “I wanted Planetary Vision to feel like a track playing at an early morning beach party in 1998 while someone you’ve just met is telling you their life story on the dancefloor.”

The result is Progressive Balearic — a warm, emotionally charged club record that blurs the lines between memory, fantasy and dancefloor ritual. Whether the genre catches on beyond Wille remains to be seen, but for twenty minutes or so, the argument is surprisingly persuasive.

Few artists in contemporary house music carry the spirit of the genre with as much sincerity as Space Ghost. Hailing from Oakland, his work taps into something timeless — a deep, emotional current that connects the roots of house to its more introspective, dreamlike edges. Drawing lineage from figures like Larry Heard, Alton Miller, and Blaze, his music channels a sense of warmth and affirmation that feels increasingly rare in today’s fast-moving landscape.

Originally released in 2021, Dance Planet quickly became one of those records that quietly embeds itself in people’s lives — not just as a dancefloor tool, but as a companion. With the newly expanded Dance Planet – Be Free Edition on Tartelet Records, that vision returns with renewed clarity. Remastered and reimagined through a series of new remixes — including contributions from RAMZi and Crystalline Reality — the album deepens its emotional reach while staying rooted in its original message: to move freely, to feel deeply, and to be unapologetically yourself.

Across ambient passages, broken rhythms, and classic 4/4 grooves, Space Ghost continues to explore the healing potential of music — something that extends beyond his productions into his label Peace World Records and his broader artistic philosophy.

For this MIXED BY, we caught up with him to talk about revisiting Dance Planet, the role of affirmation in his work, and how his musical world continues to evolve.

INTERVIEW

Dance Planet has taken on a kind of timeless quality since its original release. What made you want to revisit it now with the Be Free Edition?
Well I think it’s been about 5 years since we first released Dance Planet, which is crazy by the way! But yea, Tartelet hit me up recently and we thought it sounded like a good idea to reissue the project. It felt like a good opportunity to remaster everything, add some new remixes, and mess with the art to give it a fresh twist.

When you went back to the album, did you hear it differently compared to 2021? Had your relationship with those tracks — emotionally or technically — shifted over time?
I would say as a whole I feel very proud of this album and when I listen back, it still feels very solid and timeless to me. This album helped me explore my sound/style 5 years ago and everything I’ve made after feels like a product of it. The tracks still feel relevant to who I am at this moment. It was interesting going back to the original premasters as we prepped for new mastering because the premasters sounded way different than I remember. I remember thinking that these were some of the best mixes I had ever done back when we first released it, but now some of the premasters sounded a bit lacking! It was a good reminder of how much the mastering brought out of the tracks originally.

The record has always carried a strong message of affirmation — “be yourself,” “go,” “heal.” Where does that impulse come from in your music? Is it something intentional, or just naturally embedded in how you create?
I think the affirmation themes were prevalent around that time because I was teaching myself to let go within my music and create what felt true to myself. Plus I think those kinds of themes and lyrics always go hand in hand with dance music. Optimism, healing, being yourself, I guess either way you spin it, they’ll work well on the dancefloor or at home.

There’s a beautiful balance in your work between dancefloor energy and introspective moments. How do you approach that duality when producing? Do you think in terms of function (club vs. home listening), or more in terms of feeling?
It just depends on my mood or attention span. I think generally the duality of those two styles is kind of just who I am. A lot of the time I’m very introverted and like being in my own head at home but sometimes I’m feeling like going out and dancing or interacting with others. Sometimes I feel like making a house track and other times I feel like making something more ambient. I think as I get older I’m still learning how to make more proper club tunes, it’s really hard! Sometimes I think I’m making something for the club but later realize it’s better suited for home listening. I think most of the time I’m really just going off of mood and when a project starts forming, I begin to understand which direction it’s going either dancefloor or home listening. In terms of an album though, it just sounds nice on an LP to have the mixture of both club and home listening to balance each other out.

Your sound is often linked to the legacy of artists like Larry Heard or Blaze — music that feels deeply human and emotional. How do you engage with that lineage without feeling constrained by it?
People will always draw their own lines to other artists when listening to my music. I’m often linked to the sounds of Larry Heard because I’ve been pretty open about my inspiration from his music and sometimes my older tracks used similar keyboards. I love blaze, but I don’t think I was ever inspired by them directly for any releases. But that said, I can’t be too mad being compared to some of the greatest house legends. I don’t think I’ll ever feel constrained by those musical links, I’m always going to be inspired by other people’s music and people will draw their own conclusions when they listen to my sounds. Music and Art are like a game of telephone, we’re just absorbing what we like and then trying to recreate our favorite parts with our own voice. People will listen to my music and relate it to everything that came before me, and that’s just a part of being a musician or artist.

The new remixes bring very different perspectives to the album. What stood out to you when you heard interpretations from artists like RAMZi or Crystalline Reality? Did any of them surprise you in how they reframed your work?
I know these songs so well, I’ve heard them a million times. I guess it’s just interesting to hear them totally reimagined by other artists through their own creative lens. I really appreciate that both the RAMZI and Crystalline Reality remixes were quite different from the originals, it just brings a new flavor to my music and hopefully a new crowd of listeners. But on the other hand Not Even Noticed provided a nice take to my original track as well, kind of in the same spirit but a little faster and DJ friendly.

You’ve also revisited your own tracks for this edition. What does it mean to remix yourself? Is it about refinement, reinterpretation, or something closer to closure?
I really like remixing my own songs, sometimes you can get a lot of creative juice out of one idea. I often like doing different versions of my own songs which can sometimes land on the same release. For my remix of Be Yourself, I was thinking more about trying to simplify the original into a more club friendly tune and breathe some new life into it. I still like the original but sometimes it can also sound a bit too mellow. I often make songs thinking they would work really well in the club, only to realize they might sound kind of clunky or lack energy. So with that, I thought I’d try to update ‘Be Yourself’ so that it could fit into a faster club set, with more groove and swing. I think it worked, guess I’ll go find out?

Your label, Peace World Records, also reflects a strong sense of identity and intention. How does running a label feed back into your own creative process?
I’m still trying to figure out the right flow for my art and my label. Right now I’m just trying to catch up with myself and release a few projects that have been taking me a long time to complete. But ideally when I’m feeling more caught up, I’d like to get in a nice flow of creating and releasing my own music on my label at a nice non-stressful pace. Hopefully then I’ll have this sort of rolling ball of creativity from creating and releasing music more smoothly.

The MIXED BY format sits somewhere between a DJ set and a personal statement. How did you approach building this mix? Were you thinking about storytelling, mood, or something more instinctive?
I was looking back at my more recent mixes and realizing I needed some more house focused or uptempo mixes. I’ve got so much house music stacking up over the years and I’m not putting enough of it into mixes. So I blended some recent finds that I’ve been enjoying as well as some things that have been starting to gather dust and I just haven’t gotten around to putting in a mix for awhile.

Is there a thread or idea that connects the tracks you selected for the mix? What do you hope listeners take away from it — especially in relation to Dance Planet?
Honestly there’s not much of a deep takeaway from this mix, just some nice dance tunes I hope people enjoy. The mix is mostly moody old school house, with some faster stuff towards the end that I usually wouldn’t get to play out.

A lot of your music feels rooted in healing and emotional release. Do you think dance music still holds that space today? Or has the context changed in recent years?
I feel like the core values of dance music is about emotional release. Whether as a DJ, Musician or Dancer, it’s all about expressing yourself and healing through music. Not sure if much has changed.

Looking ahead, where do you feel your sound is moving? Do you see yourself continuing along this path, or exploring new territories beyond what we hear on Dance Planet?
I don’t think there’s a straight answer to that one, I’ll just continue being creative and the music will go where it wants to go.

Tartelet is pleased to welcome the tranquil acid delights of fast-rising Frankfurt-Leipzig duo not even noticed for a brightly melodic, rolling EP of positive party gear.

Since forming in 2020, the pair have won over a succession of well-established labels and dancefloors with their infectious, easy-going approach to acid and breakbeat. The mellow, soulful mood on their Aerial EP arrives as the perfect soundtrack to the brightening skies of spring in the Northern hemisphere.

From the airy pads of ‘Aerial’ and the psychedelic chill-out breaks of ‘Voidness’ to the tough groove of ‘Fidelity’ and ‘Affected’s tightly wound electro framework, there’s plenty of scope across the whole record without losing a grip on the warm and grounded mood that makes this duo such a resounding success wherever their music gets an airing.

Coming correct with an all-too-rare restorative quality to their tunes and a serious weight that comes to life over a big system, not even noticed are a perfect fit right here on Tartelet.

The 12-inch is limited to 300 copies and comes in a black sleeve with a specially designed sticker.

In a now annual tradition, Tartelet leans into the introspective mood of the winter months with itsthird compilation of downtempo and ambient titles. The artists involved on this 24-track collection include recent frontliners as well as long-standing extended family and breakthrough talents.

Medusozoa Vol III offers a perfect opportunity to dig into the dimensions of the label not defined by a dancefloor beat. Here, low-slung hip-hop and RnB can sit alongside beatless reveries, head-nodding dub meditations, and nimble, meandering jazz funk alike. If there was ever a question whether the label promotes a broad church of music, here it is in abundance.

The trip begins with long-time Tartelet alumni Max Graef, who makes two appearances on Medusozoa Vol III in his now signature woozy style interspersed with artful sampling. Doc Sleep follows up on her debut solo with a gorgeous foray into submerged, dubby shimmers, and Oakland-based psych-soul star ABUNAI links back up with kissingpractice for another dose of heart-on-sleeve song craft.

Copenhagen-based artist Lord of the Magi takes us on a mesmerising ride of ‘60s psychedelia, perfectly extending his sound nurtured on the Soul Exchange record. And Later Version, a collaboration from Oakland duo DJML and Jerod S. Rivera, sink into an analogue bubble bath of electronic and acoustic sonics. Athlete Whippet’s accomplished, soul-informed sound slips in perfectly, adding a warm, laid back
funk to the mix.

While label mainstay Nelson of the East drops a surprise hit sure to get a mass of bodies moving, Space Ghost returns for another blissfully beatless excursion that’s all killer, no filler. Tartelet wizard Glenn Astro also continues to shape out his distinctive path through modern beat constructions and edgy synth snaps.

Fresh label debuts include Mr. Beatnick, who lays down a sumptuous slice of cosmic downtempo boogie, while London-based producer DrumTalk brings his signature deft drum programming mood. Ciel also makes a first appearance on the label with her signature backroom dreamscapes and shimmering, tripped-
out style.

With its rich tapestry of mellow sounds to melt into, Medusozoa Vol III offers both a soothing backdrop and something mentally nourishing to fix your mind’s ear on.

Downtempo, ambient and meditative, ‘Medusozoa Vol II’ is a compilation of tracks made for deep listening, reflection and procrastination. Spotlighting previously unreleased songs and fresh new finds, the album takes listeners on a journey through moods across genres, giving flight to the imagination

With a busy year coming to an end, Tartelet Records is taking a step back to pause and reflect. Releasing November 30th, “Medusozoa Vol II is a compilation of 20 introspective, ambient and downtempo tracks from across the planet – all carefully selected for their healing qualities,” explains Tartelet label head, Emil Margetli Nyholm.

Alongside previously unreleased material by Space Ghost, Zopelar, Glenn Astro, Max Graef and Uffe, the album also features recent signings the likes of ABUNAI, Athletic Whippet, Brynjolfur, Doc Sleep and Sans Merit (a new project by Francis Inferno Orchestra), plus a few classics from the back catalogue courtesy of Henry Wu & Tito Wun, among others.

Whether taking listeners back to a time in the past, to a daydream in the future, or fully immersing them into the present, all tracks were selected for their restorative and relaxing qualities, giving listeners a reason to find comfort in today’s climate of uncertainty.

‘Nelson of the East’ delves into new territory with this release; venturing into a new sonic landscape with a nod towards towards the club. However – the complex, percolating rhythmic flavours that have stood out in his previous productions remain at the forefront of all 3 tracks on this EP.

The track, ‘Sub Erotic’ encapsulates this new stripped back yet sophisticated approach that has been formulated for this EP.

A sparse arrangement leads to several meticulously crafted layers that interplay with one another throughout the entirety of the track – resulting in a simple yet absorbing outcome.

The funk laden bassline underpins the body of the track providing a simple yet effective groove that’s oh so easy to lock into, whilst the almost metallic drenched percussive element add an ever-morphing layer of ear candy above.

As in many of his previous releases, ‘Nelson of the East’ gives a nod to a host of non-western drum elements, patterns, and sequences that result in a dynamic yet organic rhythm that contribute to his truly authentic, creative and unique sound.

‘Nelson of The East’ – Sub Erotic E.P [TDE01] Available May 6 on vinyl and digital.

Following a string of strong releases, Tartelet Records is taking a step back to reflect on a year on hold. Releasing on Friday, March 26th, Medusozoa is a compilation of 13 introspective, downtempo and ambient-leaning tracks that have been carefully selected for their healing qualities. Alongside previously released and unreleased material by Glenn Astro, Henry Wu & Tito Wun, Jitwam, Max Graef & Wayne Snow, Space Ghost, and Uffe, the record also features recent signings the likes of ABUNAI, Armin Tamzarian, and Nelson of the East.

Out on February 24th, the first single “peace sign” by label-newcomer ABUNAI is a heartfelt piece of electronic soul brought to life by the artist’s falsetto vocals and hazy, laidback production. A style and sound synonymous with the Bay Area where he resides – though with a deeper message at its core:

“Peace sign” was inspired by some of the intense wildfires during 2020 and the feeling of sitting inside while the world is on fire,” says ABUNAI. “It’s about our lack of control over what might happen to the people we love, and learning to accept that lack of control.”

Worthy of a second spin, Oakland native Space Ghost continues on theme with the two deep ambient cuts “Night Dive (Ft. Morgan)” and “Tropical Pavilion” taken from his first and second albums.
Max Graef contributes with the track “Jane” with Wayne Snow on vocals: a lesser-known gem taken from his critically acclaimed 2014 debut album Rivers of the Red Planet. Recorded on an afternoon in Graef’s old Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg apartment, it was one of Wayne Snow’s first features and remains a label favorite. Tartelet Records label head Emil Nyholm remembers:

“Wayne and Max had just met and started working together – this was one of their first collaborations and it all came together in one afternoon – it felt magical back then and it still does today,” he says.

A “hidden” bonus track from his acclaimed Honeycomb album, “Confessions” by Jitwam drops the artist’s usual vocals and signature funk-leaning groove in favor of slow, dozy melody. Strangely soothing and hypnotic, Confessions features mellow triphop-inspired beats and a pitched flute-like melody – perfect stoner vibes!

Finally, Milan-native Nelson of the East delivers the previously unreleased track “The Casting,” a bizarre and cinematic piece of ambient music, showcasing his affection for soundscapes and jazzy chord progressions.
Whether taking listeners back to a time in the past, to a daydream in the future, or fully immersing them into the present, all tracks were selected for their restorative and relaxing qualities, giving listeners a reason to take comfort in today’s climate of uncertainty.

The first single “Peace Sign” by ABUNAI will be out February 24th on all digital platforms. The second single “Confessions” by Jitwam is available March 10th on all digital platforms ‘Medusozoa’ drops March 26th.

Our next premiere comes from the illustrious Urulu. Following a run of remarkable releases on Voyage Recordings, Kalahari Oyster Cult and his own Amadeus imprint, Urulu steps up for the next release on Copenhagen’s renowned Tartelet Records. Fusing elements of electro, jungle, old school rave and house with his own signature style, Urulu presents a thrilling collection of club-friendly tunes.

[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/premiere-urulu-destino-tikal-cuerpo-pulsante-mix/” /]
Our pick of the bunch is Destino Tikal, a percussive roller for the late hours. Pairing a rolling bass, 4/4 strut with a slew of percussion and no shortage of groove, Destino Tikal starts off with tribal energy. Bongos, triangles, maracas & shakers, you name it, Destino Tikal’s got it. As things get going, groovy stabs shimmer and stutter, distant vocals fade in and out & keys bounce all over in an irresistible groove. Just when you though it couldn’t get any better, the bass fades out one last time. From the abyss come delicate strings, and those once distant vocals emerge from the shadows. With the final drop, all elements reunite in an eruption of energy that’ll shake any dance floor. A no-fuss party starter that appeals to both body and soul, Destino Tikal is a bonafide club tool. Make sure to check out the rest of the EP and pre-order here.
