Moscow producer and DJ, Lay-Far is a dab hand at creating those instant classics with a global following that would agree. Always bringing the right energy to every party, space, mix or occasion, we have come to depend on the electronic music maestro for bouncy garage, 80s disco, classic jungle, soul, funk, house music floorfillers and just about everything in between. Today we are super excited to premiere the A1 of his latest EP, ‘Seasons Change’. A 4-part collection blending genres and flavours fit for any musical palette. In that Lay-Far way, this EP has something for everyone.

Sampling raw dub vocals, jungle beats and upbeat summer house, “All Massive” is instant sunshine for any quarantine/lockdown/isolation; it’s the perfect time to recall words of faith from the Russian native: “limitation is the mother of invention”.

Part of the Local Talk family and with releases on Brooklyn’s Razor n Tape, Leng, Atjazz and BBE (just to name a few), this release comes off Tokyo label, Eureka! who started working with Local Talk back in 2014. Lay-Far has no doubt been on their radar for a while now making this a perfect pairing for their first release of 2020.

‘Seasons Change’ incorporates a plethora of sounds both past a present, each track bringing in a new spell cast by the studio veteran. Beautifully mixed jungle, house, Brazilian sounds on the A side, with pure ambient drum and bass nostalgia on the flip. Pre-order here.

Be sure to lock into the In Beat-Ween Show on Russia’s Silver Rain Radio for your soulful fix from Lay-Far.

Stay safe out there!

Fresh off their latest EP on Soul Clap Records (We Push On), DC-based Sol Power All-Stars are back on their own imprint with Special Features. The record offers two new originals on the A, and two remixes to the lead track on the flip. While the two top-side jams offer dubby, broken beats lathered with vocals and keys from Kenny Wesley and Daniel Meinecke respectively, DJ Spinna and Caserta’s takes on “Don’t You Let Go” provide reinvented looks.

Our premiere comes in the form of Spinna’s Galactic Soul Remix, which in trademark Galactic Soul fashion boasts a big, funky bassline and next level drums (look out for that clap). It’s an eight minute-long deep house take that serves nicely as a club joint; with brooding synths adding a slightly darker vibe. The other remix, meanwhile, has Caserta doing his best MAW impression — swinging drums and piano house aesthetics and all.

Special Features is technically out tomorrow (September 27), but is already showing up on retailers like Juno Records

Minneapolis doesn’t usually come to mind when thinking of Midwest house music, however, folks like Jeff Swiff have been holding it down there for the better part of the last decade with solid events and production. Nicewon is an iteration of this hustle, and the label is now taking physical form with its first vinyl release. The drop comes via MPLS producer Christian James, with a remix from young London sensation and YouTube house celebrity Cody Currie.

[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/premiere-christian-james-the-whip-cody-currie-remix” /]
That very remix serves as our premiere from the release. Cody takes the bounciness and stabbing chords of the original here and reworks the stems into a swinging, midtempo affair. A full and fun bassline keeps the track moving nicely between layered hats and some trademark vocal sample filtering by Currie. The remix is a nice compliment to the rest of the record, serving as a loose, low-slung alternative to the faster originals. It’s always nice to see another American label taking flight in the wax game, and Nicewon is here to represent the NoCoast.

Nicewon is commendably taking the self-distributed approach, so preorder the wax on their Bandcamp if you’re feeling it.

Having been ensconced in the studio recording material for his debut album due 2019 via Discotexas, Berlin based experimental artist Oma Nata pre-empts its release with a brand new Jazz-house inspired track ‘Father’s Son’. He says: “Father’s Son is a memorial to my childhood. I try to create my own identity and reality through music and imagery by using sounds and my body. The track is a journey, beginning with an almost animalistic sound and leans towards a soulful funk and groovy bass line that I’ve dedicated to my late father”.

Oma Nata’s music crosses boundaries bewteen jazz, house, dub and electronica; exploring a moody, vibrant and exotic sound. Born and raised in Portugal, Mário da Motta Veiga has made his path through music by playing different instruments in metal and electronic bands before moving to London. Between London and Berlin, Mário started to shape music into an ever-changing constellation of sounds and introspective moods that connects us to his own spiritual discovery.

Malmö-bred party boy Sune is known best for his tendency towards dusty drum kits and jovial, sun-kissed samples and chords. His latest EP, on London label Live Ones continues this aesthetic. Mimosa Kuriosa packs together five tracks of both sample-driven and hardware based jams.

While the A1 satiates the cheeky disco edit crowd by flipping a certain Shalamar favorite, A2 and B1 sit nicely into the chirpy and smooth midtempo vibe that Sune slings so well. In the latter, we have our premiere. “That Familiar Feel” is indeed familiar. The producer’s trademark snappy drum programming starts things off, coupled with a filtered bassline. As the lowpass is lifted, the sample reveals playful, jazzy rhodes action and a seductive brass section. It’s a swingy affair that will certainly please fans of the Swedish producer’s sound. The rest of the B-Side, meanwhile, sees Sune exploring more live instrumentation in his production, but reaching the same bright and peaceful moods.

The EP is out now on 12″ vinyl and available to cop here.

Primarily a digital label, Neovinyl is back on the scene with a V/A sampler on 12″ black vinyl. The release features cuts from label co-bosses Baldo and Carlo, as well as regulars Black Loops and Chicago producer Garrett David. Where The Wild Beats Are marks the third entry in the imprint’s limited series, and maintains the polished, club-ready deep house sound of the main run.

Our premiere comes in the B2 slot of the EP, via Baldo’s “Aquatic Funk”. It’s a brooding club cut built on a big synth bassline and a tasty 909 kit. Stealthy pads and chords come in nicely to accent the recipe. All in all, it’s a track structured for late night affairs; pulsating with darker energy.

The rest of the EP boasts equally chunky deep house swingers as well, and suggests it could be a reliable piece of wax for bigger room affairs.

Where The Wild Beats Are should be sneaking into shops any moment now. Preorder on Juno here.

Melbourne man turned Berliner Andy Hart‘s Voyage Recordings started as a platform for cosmically-inspired dusty deep house jams. As the producer’s sound has maneuvered towards tougher, electro-inspired sounds, so has the label’s direction. The label’s new VYGR series capitulates this gradual transition, with Andy helming a 12″ holding two heavy, spacey tracks.

The A-Side, “Neutron Capture” is a hardware driven cut distinguished by its ever-present and acid-tinged bassline. 808 drums lay the foundation underneath, while galactic synths and effects layer in to accentuate the affair. It’s a bit more stripped-back at times than the producer’s Mistress In Your Mind EP — also on Voyage — but a logical progression in sound. The B-Side, meanwhile, hosts the clubbier, pulsing “LFTR”. Again, the 303 influence and sci-fi feel appears, but in a higher energy format meant to rock the dancefloor.

Voyager 1 drops in two weeks time, on September 28th, and will be available in both vinyl and digital format.

Parisian Afro imprint Mawimbi‘s latest release in collaboration with Wormfood Records comes from Ghanian project ONIPA. In packaging four originals with three remixes, the EP covers a lot of ground, with West African stylings manifested in hip-hop, disco and house formats and beyond. This feat should come as no surprise to followers of the label, however, as the Paris crew has long managed to tastefully blend African music forms with electronic dance sensibilities.

Our premiere comes via London duo Krywald & Farrer‘s remix of the A1 track, “Woza”. Known lately for their scorching hot Persies series, here the talented editors modify the frenzied, afrofuturistic original into a chilled deep house affair. Where the original is percussive, and intensely jovial, the remix is more subdued. Synth pads and basslines create a new texture for the track, while drum and vocal samples from the original are layered in to maintain some of the original flavor. It’s ultimately a fairly climactic affair, too, with everything building towards a bittersweet combination of chords.

The rest of the record, meanwhile, has variety on offer. A range of tempos and styles are explored by ONIPA to showcase their fusion of African music with contemporary electronic formats. The wax and full digital release for the record is coming up soon, too, with the drop scheduled for September 7th (it can be preordered here).

French label Broken District is back again with a new sampler, bringing together six different producers to explore deep beats of many varieties. The label is not bound by tempo or stylistic limitations, seeking to venture into the palettes of deep house, hip-hop, broken beat, nu disco and more. Their sophomore release continues the format of their inaugural V/A and boasts a roster of solid up-and-comers and underground vets alike.

Sam Irl, who’s contribution comes in the B2 slot of the 12″, is one of the latter. The Vienna-based producer has long pleased ears with treats from his pal Dusty’s Jazz & Milk imprint, in addition to releases on a clutch of other solid imprints. “On The Mend” is a driving, nu-disco track that borrows heavily from 80’s new wave aesthetics. A straight-up kick/clap and rocking bassline gets layered upon by filtered chords and pads, percussion, and an ethereal vocal sample. It’s a higher tempo track that could sit nicely as a sunrise jam in a late night set. The filtered and shiny groove helping you cruise into the new day.

BKD002 is available soon on 12″ vinyl at a variety of outlets. Don’t sleep.

German producers Tilman and Johannes Albert have been cranking out crafty disco-sampling house music and fun, gritty tools under their FINE brand for about two years now. The latest comes from Mainz-based Tilman, in the form of the four track Beyond My Soul EP. Like past releases in the catalogue, the record hosts useful sample-based cuts and edits for the disco-minded house fan.

Our premiere comes via the A1 slot on the 12″, “You Can’t Hide The Rumors”, which ups the tempo for a slightly melancholy affair. A big breakbeat serves as the backbone of the track, with well-timed percussion samples and open hats adding motion and groove. Front and center is a fluttering piano, accented by gloomy strings and filtered vocal chops. It’s a bit more frantic in speed and vibe than the often playful stylings of recent releases on the label, but provides nice variety for the four-track offering.

On the other grooves are a grip of disco flips with different utilities. “Talking About Today” combining Keni Burke and Mary Jane Girls in an uptempo and swingy affair for the A2. Meanwhile, the B-side ventures into more laidback territory, with guitar-driven soul chops setting the summer mood. Be sure to keep an eye out for this solid record, which is now available on the label’s Bandcamp.
