Seb Wildblood’s third and youngest brainchild, All My Thoughts, gets ready for its 5th artist EP and 7th release overall to drop. Established just over a year ago, the label was meant to be a platform to showcase the deeper leanings of Wildblood’s musical palate. One calendar year later and seven releases in, two of which were full length albums released on cassettes, it’s clear that the Church head honcho has another successful imprint on his hands. With a fairly coherent sound that ranges from ambient leanings to more late night, analog jams, the distinction from its older sister labels couldn’t be clearer, establishing All My Thoughts as a prime hub for talent largely unconnected, at least in terms of sound, to its older siblings.[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/secret-lover-far-off”]Next up on the docket is Secret Lover‘s (soundcloud) “Lost & Found” EP. The Vancouver-based producer, DJ and commander-in-chief of Western Canada’s vinyl staple, Heart To Heart, delivers three original tracks alongside a remix from fellow Vancouverite, Khotin, an assortment that finds itself comfortably snug in the AMT aesthetic. Our premiere today is the A1 and original mix of Far Off. Featuring sparsely populated, pleasant chords and a lighthearted keyboard melody, this number is a slowly developing journey. Pairing the melodic elements with a buoyant, rubbery bassline and simple yet groovy percussion, Secret Lover manages to deliver a piece that makes you want to meander through the scenic backdrop of the Canadian rockies. The rest of the EP is worth a good listen too, but we won’t spoil it. You should get your hands on a copy and do your own due diligence over at the All My Thoughts Bandcamp page.

Based out of Hanoi, Vietnam, ELE Records is a fresh imprint run by Sameed of Local Talk fame. With a primary focus on dusty, sampled cuts and edits influenced by early hip hop and house music, they’ve already released a couple of edits by Cottam who gave the classic ‘Escravos de Jo‘ a modern flip. Like their elephant inspired artwork, it’ll be interesting to see if any of their future releases draw influence from Vietnam and the surrounding east Asian scene. As for their second record, it’s a various artists compilation featuring an Unknown Artist, Replete ft Bini, Sameed himself and Contours (soundcloud), who is featured in today’s premiere.

Tom Burford aka Contours is a Manchester-based percussionist, producer and DJ. Inspired by his father who was a drummer himself, he’s always had various noisy things to hit lying around the house. This constant exposure to drums and various other instruments is definitely the reason why his tracks are always rhythmically inspired, with fresh organic sounding percussion bringing some warmth to his productions. Just have a listen to his debut EP ‘Technician‘ on Rhythm Section for an excellent example of the aforementioned.

[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/contours-night-shift”/]

His contribution to ELE Records’ 2nd outing “Hà Nội Nights” is entitled ‘Night Shift‘. Breezy chords and a delayed sax (played by saxophonist Callum Connell) make your mind wander off to some far away land, until the rubbery bass groove not so rudely awakens you from your daydream. Next thing you know, your feet are involuntarily moving to the the rhythm generated by the mixture of percussion both digitally generated and organic. The reverberating cowbell pattern particularly stands out as it has plenty of room to breathe around the rest of the arrangement and really helps the piece come to a head paired with the fluttering saxophone.

Be sure to check out the rest of the tracks on the EP and get your pre-orders in!

FINA Records was established in 2011, originally as an offshoot for Ralph Lawson’s 2020 Vision label. Three years into that tenure, the partnership ended with both parties looking to focus on their own imprints full time. The identity that FINA has crafted for itself is one that’s hard to put a finger on, as their releases encompass a fairly wide range. Not pigeonholing themselves into one style they do manage to have a common factor connecting their music and that is strong melodic undertones. Whether it’s a fairly downtempo tune or a more straightforward house jam, there is always an inherently musical nature to their output.

Saine (soundcloud), a Helsinki-based producer who has somehow managed to fly (somewhat) under the radar for years, even with his consistent quality, is a perfect fit for the aforementioned unquantifiable character that FINA has established for itself. His loose and smokey, organic sound filled with obscure samples has landed him releases on some fantastic record labels, such as an EP on the now discontinued Sleazy Beats Black Ops and an excellent mini-LP on Fools & Fables Recordings. The Finnish musician’s latest is called “Mint EP” and it features three stellar cuts.

[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/premiere-saine-technique”/]

Today’s premiere and the A1 ‘Technique‘ doesn’t stray from what we’ve come to expect from Saine. Muted keys set the tone as a looped guitar rhythm and understated bass form the foundation of the groove. Crisp yet slightly hazy drums are in support with shaker patterns fluttering throughout. A second guitar sample plays call and response with a held vocal note while a male voice croons an unintelligible phrase. Sampled rhodes-like bleeps doodle throughout the first half when the vocals aren’t present, taking centre stage during the mini-break. The various instruments and samples are elegantly filtered in and out while oscillating atmospheric noises help create a sense of motion. The Finnish sampling maestro is once again able to bring forth another must-have record and the good news is that it will be released in just a couple of days!

Let’s Go Swimming is a party series and record label based out of London, UK. To date, they’ve hosted just a tad more than an event per month since their inception in April of last year. Their line-up of guests is already an impressive one ranging from the likes of DJ Sotofett to Jayda G. In the meantime, they’re also establishing a name for themselves as an imprint to watch with three releases in the bag and the fourth one just around the corner. A roster that already includes lush EPs from Mack Ness, Doppelate and William Earl is now expanding to a fourth member, OCTO CHAMP (soundcloud).

Nathan David Smith, operating between Glasgow and London is an all around creative individual. When he’s not making music as OCTO CHAMP he’s one half of Rigid Disco or producing and directing music videos as well as creating various works of art. Today we’ll be focusing on his solo musical identity, though. So far, he’s released an EP on Boutade Musique as well as a couple of free downloads and remixes. His sound is fairly hard to pin down but groovy, natural sounding percussion seems to be a staple.

[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/octo-champ-said-you-were”/]

OCTO CHAMP’s forthcoming EP for Let’s Go Swimming is entitled “Not Quite Here Yet” and features four tracks, two fairly hazy morning after jams and two warm cuts made for the dancefloor. Our premiere and the A2, ‘Said You Were‘ is one of the latter. Organic sounding drums with an extensive array of scuttling and pattering percussion serve up this tasty groove while the bass keeps a steady rhythm. Sampled diva-esque vocals provide a light-hearted touch and some simple fluctuating synth lines help to tie it all together. The focus here is definitely on the thickly layered and diverse drums which more than likely include the kitchen sink.

Pre-order the record here and if you happen to be in London in March check out the record release party.
