Nicepeople have released some serious players in the past couple of years, from established legends like Orlando Voorn and Boo Williams through to newer talents like Khadeeja Grace and Soulvibe Inc. Now it’s the turn of Giuseppe Scarano and Gourmet De Funk to lay down the deep house mission in a classic New York style – just listen to ‘Gotta Move (GFD Party Stompin’ Mix)’ and you’ll know what we mean.

The sampling alone nods to Big Apple legend Pal Joey, while the sax-licked groove has a MAW vibe to die for. The quality keeps up across this record, leaving you with some forthright garage house pieced together with knowledge and flai.

New York City-based House duo musclecars have been steadily building a formidable reputation within underground dance circles in their hometown. With the creation of their Coloring Lessons Party in 2018 (which is now a label), they sought to reinvigorate their city’s dance culture and foster a greater sense of community by highlighting and incorporating styles and genres largely associated with their Black ancestry. Shelter, (Building It Still) is the latest solo EP for the duo on their newly minted label.

B-side track, “We Go Home Together”, is a gorgeous, patient, amorphous cut of experimental Jazz-House. Its blend of emotive jazz arrangements with a more propulsive club-ready House beat illustrates a meticulous, yet free-form approach to music-making that the duo thrives at. The track starts with a thumping bass and shifty percussion before an ethereal synth wash wraps it in a more gentle veneer. These club-leaning tendencies turn out to be mostly a red herring, as they’re kept mostly at bay throughout the song’s 7-and-a-half-minute runtime. Once the sax emerges, it’s clear musclecars has committed to their own unique brand of soulful, genre-agnostic House.

As the track hits the halfway point, a piano-line suited for a classic Disco House cut signals yet another new avenue the duo seems keen on exploring. Despite their restless spirit, they never feel as if they’re trying to push too hard in one direction, ultimately allowing the track’s multifarious parts to playfully and organically interact with one another. Here, the duo prove just what naturals they are at concocting such ineffably blissful, melodically soothing dance music.

Interdimentrix on Fokus Global is a five track EP from Brooklyn-based Old Terra. The combination of chaotic breaks, ghostly pads, steady kicks, and hooky baselines will have you scratching your head, as well nodding it.

Eerie atmospheres of In Parallel, Dim Ages and Subdimension are contrasted by the energy brought by Griff Spex on Get You Open, a track that would sound equally at home in the club or coming out of a car stereo at 2 AM somewhere in Crown Heights. The release wraps with the suspenseful and purifying vibes of Iverson Loop.

Following an incredible release earlier this year on Lillerne Tapes Alien D is back. This time on fifteen.pm with 3 more kaleidoscopic journeys to drift away to. Today’s premiere features the track Frog Shirt from the forthcoming Jazzin’ the Cube EP. The track opens with bouncy kick while airy and shimmering synths float above. As the square bass enters the mix, it begins pulsing along as a frog’s neck does while meditating on a lily pad. There are tons of bits of sound to get lost in on Frog Shirt. Alien D illustrates again an ability to make tunes that are both contemplative and groovy – calming to the soul yet makes you want to get up bop around too. It’s this sense of duality and playfulness that makes us stoked for each upcoming release from Alien D.

New York’s releisure is back. Hot off their recent reissue of Intergalactic Faerie Funk, they’ve lined up another name that should be familiar to our readers, Keita Sano. The Japanese producer has made a name for himself over the past 5 years or so and his tracks have been played the world over. With Afro influences and chunky basslines, there’s a good chance you’ve heard one of his club friendly jams recently.

Today we’re premiering the A2 on his releisure release, entitled “Paradise”. Using crunchy percussion and effective looping, Keita Sano has managed to create another dancefloor bomb. Subtle acid lines creep in and the strings create real tension, perfect for those dancers waiting for the beat to drop. Basically a DJs weapon, we expect this one to cause some major damage.

JKriv and Aaron Dae are the duo to thank behind the outstanding label, their hard work has seen them shape the new disco sounds running deep through the underground veins of New York City and beyond. They boast an extremely impressive repertoire of artists; Tiger & Woods, Jacques Renault, Dimitri from Paris, Late Nite Tuff Guy, Eli Escobar and disco don’s COEO are just a few of the wealth of talent who have released on the label. You’ll struggle to find a label with a better discography.
