Solstice begins with icy synth arpeggios that shimmer the reflecting winter sunlight. As the meditative synth line progresses, dubby splashes of filtered pads begin to lift the track into orbit. The cozy and contemplative intro gives way to a rollicking bassline that gives the track some thump. The funky bass chugs along in the mix driving the tune, while beautifully crafted synths flutter and glisten along the top end of the mix. It is a track to get lost in. One where you can feel your feet planted and your mind floating. The future is exciting for the young producer, and we look forward to what else is in store from him. Solstice is a strong addition from an ever compelling catalog from Blaq Numbers.

Cultivating a staunch following via his online channels, this elusive cat named DJ Swagger is usually all about adrenaline. His debut record ‘Greatest Hits’ was characterised by wailing cop sirens and crackling gunfire to give you some indication.

Taking a slightly calmer route, the swagman returns with his ’Faces Whatsoever’ EP via Thirty Year Records. Still a young man, he’s already achieved plenty, with a stack of originals previously released on imprints such as Natural Sciences, Who’s Susan and E-Beamz.

Up next comes the cheekily titled ‘Vegan Bordbistro’ (ft. Vector Dancer), interpret it as you may. Heading to someplace devoid of gravity, Swagger and V.D meld harsh drum tones and spacey pads, creating a tune to help warm the floor. There’s a beautiful plateau on this plant-based breaker, one to steady the ship for what’s probably a big evening.

Closing the curtains is a doorway to the great outdoors. ‘What A Relief A Track With A Field Recording’ is built around what appear to be snippets of crickets chirping. Toss in whistles, squashed percussion and bongos and we’ve got ourselves a mellow dance in fresh air.

Natural006 comes from Irish newcomer DJ Bong Gozling (soundcloud), who may have one of the coolest names out there, although you may have heard his release earlier this year as Pirac¥ Debt$ on Major Problems (with a lovely DJ Sotofett remix to boot). Anarchy in the House of Sagesse is the name of the sixth EP and we have the exclusive premiere of the A1 track, Parisian Vacancy. An acid bassline, punishing kick and warbled chords drive this late night thumper while the crushed drums power it forward. The sampled male vocals describe a trip on LSD kicking in, making you “lose your fucking mind man” which is exactly what we expect this tune to help do at 5AM in a dark, sweaty warehouse.
