Minor Notes Recordings (soundcloud) is a brand new label venture from DJ/producer Guydee. Specializing in soulful, sample based cuts, the Moscow based establishment aims to release the finest in house and hip-hop. The label’s first outing is the “Лёжа на спине” EP, a various artists compilation that features Guydee, Black Lenin, Darran P, and Mutenoise. In its entirety the EP is excellent; the A-side showcasing various shades of disco while the B-side features lo-slung, raw deep house. The different vibes work well here, and we can easily see a few of these being low-key club weapons.

Label head honcho Guydee takes the opening slot with “Chronic Hey,” a deep disco track wrapped in layers of haze. Starting with a conga groove, Guydee ushers in a soft piano melody that’s expertly filtered to make its introduction as gentle as possible. As the kick hits we’re gifted with a powerful clap that adds wonders to the atmospheric nature of the tune. Rising, emotive synths give way to a wailing, chopped up vocal sample that bleeds over the track in it’s peak moments before disappearing into the fog of its quieter ones. This is an impressive track, reserved for the deeper more intimate moments of a set. Play this one for last call and show the club that you go deep like Jacques Cousteau.

Minor Notes is off to a great start with this project, so keep your eyes peeled for the rest of the EP because there are more burners to come. You can pre-order the EP on Juno. In the meantime, we’ll be waiting for the next one.
