Toronto native Stuart Li is as versatile a DJ as they come. With releases on many renowned labels throughout the years and co-running his own imprint Lab.our Music, we can safely say his production skills and ear for music are just as good. Generally known for house-leaning sounds, he is also effortlessly able to weave his way through disco or techno, depending on where the night goes.

This local has been making waves lately with follow-up EPs on Apron Music as well as 1080p under his “Ex-Terrestrial” moniker, while also co-running Temple Records. His eclectic sound ranges from raw analogue grooves to ethereal soundscapes and it’s this wide range that we believe will be a perfect complement to Basic Soul Unit’s versatility.

Although relatively new to the city, Ottawa native RIOHV has proven himself to be one of the finest selectors in Montreal’s ever-growing underground house scene. His diverse mixing skills have led to a number of interesting podcasts that boast eccentricity without sacrificing coherence, and a strong knowledge of dance music’s various nooks and crannies. His production chops premiered two years ago with a lovely tape on 1080p, and his live debut makes its appearance at the beloved Mutek Montreal festival this week. We were lucky enough to have him record an exclusive Bolting Bits podcast for us and answer a few questions.

INTERVIEW

Hi Braden, thanks for joining us. What have you been up to musically so far in 2016?
Hey, thanks for having me! So far this year has been fantastic; I’ve been working on so much music and recently just finished my first EP, which is set to be released later this year with 1080P. In addition to that I also have a few tracks coming out on compilations, and have started working on my second 12”.
Other then that I’ve just been having a lot of fun making new music, collaborating with friends, and doing shows whenever I can.

When did you move to Montreal? What was it that attracted you to the city, and do you see yourself here in the foreseeable future?
I moved to Montreal in September 2015, so I haven’t really been here that long. This past summer Project Pablo invited me to come DJ at his monthly event at Datcha. I was living in Ottawa at the time and had never played outside of the city, so this was an exciting opportunity. I had lived in Ottawa for a number of years, but never jumped the provincial border to check out Montreal as much as I should have. I had always heard what Montreal could be like, but had never made the effort to come out here more.

I feel like there has always been an attraction to Montreal. When I was living in Ottawa I had caught wind of Forbidden Planet and the parties they would put on. I always knew Montreal had a fantastic dance scene, but seeing posters for Forbidden Planet parties really made me aware of what was going on there.
When I came to play I was totally blown away. The scene in Ottawa is fantastic, but it’s very different, and there aren’t many spaces for people to play dance music. After having had some exposure to the energy of Montreal it seemed like it would be a great fit. I was a bit nervous about the decision to move here, but ultimately it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I hope to definitely stay here for the foreseeable future.

You released an impressive tape almost two years ago on 1080p, which has fast become one of Canada’s premier electronic music labels. Do you think Canada’s scene has been growing recently, and how would you compare it to other countries’ electronic music climates?
Definitely, I feel like it’s grown a lot recently! I’ve definitely seen a lot of growth locally. I’ve seen some fantastic new labels pop up in Montreal over the past year or two, which is really exciting to see. In Vancouver too, there’s so much fantastic music coming out of that place.

For me, it’s quite hard to compare to other countries, mostly because I haven’t experienced many scenes outside of Canada. If we’re comparing it to European countries I think it’s kind of hard to compare, they’ve had strong and fairly consistent scenes for decades, whereas I feel like Canada’s dance music scenes have come in waves.

That said, there’s an immense amount of amazing music that’s come out of Canada. This past year or so I’ve been spending a tremendous amount of time digging through Discogs. I’ve been really surprised at how much fantastic music (and more specifically – house/techno) has come out of Canada since the early 90s. There’s the classic larger house labels most people know of from Toronto and Montreal, but aside from that there’s also a lot of more obscure records that came out in limited pressing, but yeah, so much to discover!

Favorite Montreal venue?
Two of my favorites are definitely Datcha and Bleury Bar à Vinyle. I still have a lot of venues to check out though. They’re always super fun to go to, and the atmosphere at either is always a really good vibe.

I also have a tremendous amount of love for the seemingly endless amount of DIY parties that people have been putting on. I’ve seen a lot of incredibly talented people in some really special locations around the city. The DIY scene was a total revelation for me and was unlike anything I had ever experience before. It’s been a lot of fun discovering that.

We are looking forward to your live set at Mutek Montreal in the coming weeks alongside Frits Wentink, Blue Hawaii, and Vertigo Inc.! Can you give us any details on your live setup or do we have to wait until June 2^nd to find out?
I’ve been really looking forward to Mutek as well. I was totally blown away when they had approached me to play! For my live set, it’s pretty basic and reflects a lot of what I would do in the studio. I do all of my production out of my laptop, so it only seems fitting that I perform my live set in the same manner. I’m excited for this show though; I’m going to be playing mostly upcoming material, as well as some unreleased tunes. I’ve been trying to formulate a live set that has something for everyone.

Who are you most excited to see at this year’s Mutek festival? And do you have any favorite new producers or labels at the moment?
There’s so many people that I’d love to see. As it stands right now, I’m super excited to see the people I’m playing alongside – I had actually discovered Vertigo Inc.’s music days before it was announced that we’d be sharing the same stage, that was a fantastic surprise. I’m also really excited to catch Terekke,
Local Artist, Powell, Julia Kent, Burundi Index, and Project Pablo performing a live set.

In terms of new producers or labels, I’ve been super excited about Regelbau and 2BitCrew Recordings. They’ve been able to create this lovely throwback to 90s tunes in a super atmospheric and special way, they’re also using a lot of breakbeats, which I’ve been super in to lately. Locally, there’s been so much to discover. One of my favorites labels, Temple, is making and putting out some really incredible music. In addition to Temple I’m also pretty excited about new label, Sobo (Sounds of Beaubien Ouest), which featured Project Pablo for their inaugural release.

How does your live setup differ from your studio setup? Do you use mostly hardware or software/plugins?
Well, it really doesn’t differ much at all. When I’m making music it’s all done within Ableton, so it only seems fitting that my live setup should reflect that. As much as I would love to be able to convert my sound into a hardware setup, it’s just not feasible for me at this point. I’ve slowly been collecting a few keyboards here and there, but they’re nothing compared to some of the vintage analog synths that you see out there.

In my studio setup I use a few ‘go-to’ software plugins that I’m a really big fan of, as of late though I’ve been dabbling with a little bit of sampling instead of relying on my VSTs as much. It’s been a pretty interesting transition. The tape that I did for 1080P has relatively no samples on it (maybe two I think). So it’s been really fun incorporating more found sound in to both my production and live sets.

Most underrated producer or label in the game right now?
Most underrated are surely the friends and strangers on Soundcloud. There’s so much crazy talent coming out of that website. Recently I’ve been stumbling across a lot of people putting their stuff up on Youtube, there’s a tremendous amount of relatively unheard, but very talented, producers on there doing great things.
Some of my favorite underrated producers right now are Human Plus, Hugo Jay, Ura, and DJ Kush Boogie, and many many more. The list could go on and on. In terms of labels I think Analogue Attic out of Melbourne is pretty underrated, they’ve been putting out some wonderfully dreamy music recently.

You graduated from Carleton University two years ago, did you study in music? Do you think your education was helpful in your music ambitions and did you create a lot while in school?
Yeah, I went to Carleton University in Ottawa. There I did my undergrad in political science. I had always dabbled with making music here and there while in school, but never anything serious. During my final semester of university, I had a class in music production. It was essentially an introductory class that asks you to compose songs using different software and equipment. I took it pretty seriously and had gotten really into learning these different pieces of software. I had always had Ableton on my computer but had never properly taken the time to learn it. This class totally allowed me to do that, and seeing as it was my last semester and was the only class I was taking, it gave me a tonne of free time to begin working on my own music as well, which is pretty much how it all started. So for this one specific class it was definitely helpful to my music ambitions!

What’s next for RIOHV? Any comments on the mix selection? Thanks for your time!
I really just want to keep making music right now, I’m really thankful that I’ve been able to go this far with music, I’m just excited to see where it continues to take me.  As for the mix, just a collection of tracks that I’ve been really feeling lately! Hope ya’ll enjoy!

Meet Griffin James aka Francis Inferno Orchestra. Doesn’t eat fruit and samples crow noises.

Hi Griffin – so, tell us – What have you been up to recently. The ol’ touring and producing routine?
Pretty much.. I just returned from Australia about a month ago which was partly to do shows but more-so to sort out my visa situation to remain in Europe which was fortunately successful, but since then yes touring, producing bla bla bla

I had a look at your bio (don’t ask me why). It says ”Francis Inferno Orchestra is the conductor of a new type of ensemble – made up of rich samples from disco’s back catalogue and an array of raw drum machine rhythms.”

What’s the most unusual sample you’ve ever used in a song & where did it end up ?
I recorded some crow noises whilst in a Australia a while back and used them in a remix, I won’t say which one because that ruins the surprise.

Talking about songs and remixes, so far you’ve released your material on quite a few different labels. Is that something you’ve planned or has it just happened. I’m asking since from a label perspective you sometimes try to work the artist on more than one release, planning a bit ahead or at least try to.
It just kinda happened, but it doesn’t happen anymore and hasn’t happened for quite a while. I think early on I was quite ignorant and just said ‘yes’ to anything that would come my way. Now I am mostly just doing stuff for my own label, besides remixes of course.

Let’s talk about Superconscious Records. You’ve started this label with Mic (Newman) aka Fantastic Man. What’s the best thing about having you own label and what’s the worst (if any) ?
I think the freedom of creativity and just being able to do whatever we want is the best part. working with mic is a real pleasure, we both have our strengths and we bounce off each other quite well with all of our ideas. We are also super lucky to have really talented friends contribute to label musically and artistically. So far nothing bad (touch wood)

Will the label focus on 12”s or do you have any plans to release albums also?
We have plans, but nothing that i can mention just yet :)

Here’s a question I’ve always wanted to ask you – If Ben Klock was a fruit, what kind of fruit would he be..and most importantly, would you eat it?
I wouldn’t know, i don’t eat fruit.

Moving on. Besides producing you also travel & DJ around the globe. Do you write/produce while you travel or do you keep the two apart?
I tend to keep the two apart, I think when I travel i’m too interested in where I am to sit in a hotel room and “make trax” and when I’m on a plane i’m either sleeping or playing my nintendo ds. I do take my sketch book around with me usually incase I feel like I want to do something productive.

I’ve been fortunate enough to hear you DJ and it really struck me that your sets are always varied and you’re not afraid to throw in a curveball. I’ve also read that you do not plan your sets in advance. Have you always played like this or is it something that, with time and experience, been developed?
I guess so, I think I just get bored listening/playing the same kinda thing for too long so I like to swap it up a bit. I enjoy listening to lots of a different stuff so I trying to include a range of things in a set is always the most fun i think.

Speaking of DJ-sets, a lot of ”disc jockeys” always say they prefer to play longer sets. If you’re going to a club to listen to a DJ yourself, are you there for the whole set?
I guess it really depends if the club has the key components to keep me there (good sound, good vibe, good people). I’ve knee slapped for 7+ hours (with breaks of course) to various marathon dj sets, many-a-times when the club/promoters did their part and provided a proper setting.

The obvious follow-up question to this then is of course what is the shortest DJ set you ever played?
I think like 20 mins? I played after Steffi once in Melbourne and literally the minute she finished, everyone in the club left and the manager shut it down.

You’re playing at Le Bleury-Bar for the Bolting Bits Crew. Is this the first time in Montréal? Do you have any connections with the music scene in Montréal?
Yeh first time! I’m really excited as it’s been on my to-do list for a while and heard great things from friends.

In closing, is there anything that future holds for FIO that we should be aware of?
A new EP which will be out before the end of the year, plus some other remixes which should be in the sphere soon. Maybe some other bits under different aliases too. I’ll be playing a bunch of dates around UK/EU over summer too so keep a look out for those. At the Superconscious camp.. Fantastic Man is delivering the next 12″ and a follow up record from Luis CL is coming too which I’m very excited about.

Le style de Francis Inferno Orchestra est reconnaissable à bonne distance. Ce natif de Melbourne a largement eu le temps de voyager et de faire ses armes dans les clubs depuis son premier release sur le label anglais Under The Shade, en 2010.
Il enchaîne alors les sorties et devient rapidement le fer de lance de la scène océanienne méconnue mais pourtant grouillante de jeunes talents. Poussé par un public avare de nouveauté, Francis Inferno Orchestra se renouvelle sans cesse et transcende les genres. Son déménagement à Londres l’a fortement inspiré et lui a permis d’ajouter une nouvelle corde musicale à son arc. En 2014, poussé par l’énergie inépuisable de la « ville monde », son EP A New Way Of Living voit le jour avec son véritable coup de génie « Ellingfort Road » (une petite rue tranquille au cœur du quartier d’Hackney dans le nord de Londres).
Cette année vit également la création par l’artiste du label Superconscious Records, sur lequel il promeut, entre autre, ses collègues restés aux antipodes ainsi que son dernier EP paru le 11 décembre 2015, Where will you be spending eternity? qui constitue le 4e release du jeune label. Même si sa présence manque à Melbourne, le déménagement de FIO en Europe fût un immense tremplin, non seulement pour lui, mais aussi pour toute une scène trop longtemps méconnu.

Vous avez peut être eu l’occasion de le voir jouer en 2015 pour 2 live à Mutek et Never Apart et précédemment aux côtés de Anthony Shake Shakir, D’Marc Cantu, DJ Qu, Project Pablo, etc. “Mélange énergique de rythmes syncopés, exaltantes mélodies et tonalités graves”, Bowly sait faire danser son auditoire et contenter les mélomanes. Whether you are a seasoned nightlife veteran or an occasional weekend warrior, you will have noticed a certain phenomenon taking hold these last few years in Montreal. An awful lot of young DJs seem to be getting organized, pooling resources, and forming collectives.

The reasons for doing so are not hard to fathom. For one, it takes considerable effort to plan a night or throw a party and, as the saying goes, many hands make light work. Secondly, for the DJ just graduating from the bedroom, it becomes easier to land gigs and fill dance floors when you have a larger network to draw from. Not least of all, being part of a DJ collective is a sure and fast way to expand your musical knowledge and hone your skills behind the decks. What better way to share your love of all things vinyl?

The Vinyl Love crew is one such collective that shares its adoration for the medium especially well. Its first incarnation began in the southwest of the city when Maxime Daigle and Mathieu Coates met at La Drinkerie Ste-Cunégonde and decided to put on a vinyl-only night there called Melomaniacs. Ranks grew when Mathieu met Adrian Warner, a.k.a. DJ Solespin, while digging at one of the city’s most cherished record stores, Death of Vinyl, and invited him to join the action. Justin Doucet (DJ Huile), Félix Gagnon (Le Laitier), and Antonin Rossier-Bisaillon (J-Totes) were later brought into the fold after showing an interest in the sounds getting played during those formative Sunday nights, which, eventually, would come to fall under the Vinyl Love banner.

As you might expect, the types of records being spun became more and more diverse as membership grew. At present, on any given Vinyl Love night, you will hear funk, soul, boogie, disco, house, afrobeat, highlife, hip hop, and 90’s R&B. To all involved, the question of whether or not a record stands the test of time is a more important consideration than genre. They are after “timeless tracks,” says one of the founders, Mathieu Coates. “When it’s above the noise of the hype, of the season, or the moment… It’s just gonna always be fucking good.”

And, as each member agrees, that music is best served up on wax. The medium is a big part of the message, if not the message for these six. “We connect to the DJ culture of the past through the vinyl,” says DJ Solespin. “I enjoy playing vinyl much more than I would an MP3 on a laptop or a CD. I connect with the label, the artist. I see the response of the crowd. It’s an earthy thing.”

Building on the popularity of their Sunday nights at La Drinkerie, the collective have recently found an additional home for that “earthy thing” at Le Bleury – Bar à Vinyle, where they now host a weekly Tuesday night gathering. Le Bleury, with its top-notch sound system and intimate dance floor, seems an ideal space for the group to air out their dusty gems.

A recent Tuesday night there saw them play host to another enthusiastic DJ collective from Quebec City known as Funk Connection. At 9pm, Le Bleury’s booth was already besieged by record crates as DJ Solespin stepped up to whirl the first cuts of the evening. Tracks such as War’s “You Got The Power“, Rene and Angela’s “I’ll Be Good“, and Gino Vanelli’s “People Gotta Move” set the stage for DJ Huile to carry on in the 80’s vein with Shannon’s “Urgent“, The Funkacise Gang’s self-titled boogie workout, “Funkacise”, and hip hop classic, “La Di Da Di”, by Slick Rick.

By the time Funk Connection took the controls, a decent-sized crowd had formed – no mean feat on a school and work night – and quite a few in attendance were actually well-thought-of local DJs themselves, fellow-practitioners of the craft who had come to doff their caps and sway pint glasses to the fine music on offer. The boys from la capitale, Louis Larochelle-Prégent, a.k.a Helpless Louis, and Gabriel Mercier-Blouin, a.k.a Bad’Nuff, received warm reactions at the very outset with tracks like Tulio de Piscopo’s “Stop Bajon” and Mark E’s ingenious edit of “Baby I’m Scared Of You” by Womack & Womack. Later highlights included the early electronic French experiment, “Night Bird”, by Bernard Lavilliers, and a recent reissue of 20 Below’s 90’s house classic, “It’s All In The Groove”, on MCDE Recordings.

The camaraderie between the two crews became apparent during the final hours of the night when Le Laitier jumped into the mix with the Québec duo, dropping deft selections like Electric Soul Orchestra’s edit of Terry Burrus and Transe’s “Love Rockin”, and the ever-explosive 1982 funk bomb, “Body Moves” by Rare Essence. Maxime Daigle, playing only a single track, would nonetheless provide one of the most soulful moments of the evening in the form of the Ghanaian song, “Funky Hilife”, by CK Mann & His Carousel 7.

All night long, until the lights came on, there was no shortage of smiles, high-fives, or shouts of mutual appreciation from the DJs on hand. Record sleeves were passed back and forth. Knowledge was exchanged. “You get to learn about music from the person that plays before you and after you. Any of these people can have a record that I wanted, want, or will want, and that’s the beauty of being in a collective. When you’re with other people, they will influence you if you allow it, and that’s a good thing,” says DJ Solespin.

Indeed, the joys and advantages of being part of a collective were readily visible to all those participating on the Vinyl Love dance floor. As one onlooker put it, “I like that feel good vibe.”

A few hours before his gig with us at Le Bleury, Patrice Scott kindly answer a few questions from our teammate Oliver.

Hi Patrice Scott, how are you doing? It’s been almost a year now since the release of your first album, Euphonium, which we really enjoyed. What have you been up to musically since then?
I am doing well. Since the release of Euphonium I have been in the studio writing music, as always, working on various upcoming projects.

The record is at once cosmic, deep, and meditative, but still maintains dance floor functionality. Was your approach to Euphonium different to that of your EP’s?
Yes, the approach was different. I wanted to tell a story. Not just release some tracks. I wanted the album to have a chronological order.

Would you say you find creative inspiration primarily in electronic music, or in other outlets?
My inspiration comes from all kinds of music as well as other things. I can be in the car driving and see a building and get inspired. Inspiration comes from many outlets if you are a true artist.

You’ve been DJ’ing for over 20 years now. How have your tastes and DJ sets changed over the years?
When I play a set I always try to take people on a journey. That is why I ask for three hours or more. That has always been and will never change. As far as taste, I always try to play music that represents me and how I feel which is deep, emotional (to a certain extent) and soulful.

You’ve obviously amassed a large record collection during that time. How much new music do you purchase, and is it primarily vinyl, digital, or a balance of the two?
I don’t buy a lot of new music because I don’t find a lot of new stuff these days that really excites me. My purchases are mainly old stuff with a few new things from time to time and mostly vinyl.

Any specific producers or labels on the scene that have been particularly grabbing you recently?
I like Kai Alce and what he is doing with his label NDATL.

What is your studio set-up like? Any favourite pieces of gear?
My studio set up is analog and digital gear. They all are my favs.

Detroit’s reputation as a cultural hotbed of musical styles of all sorts has given the city an almost mythological status to non-residents. Would you say the city has changed recently, especially due to the recent increase in house and techno’s popularity?
The city has not changed. It is still the same. Talented and inspiring artist continue to emerge from Detroit.

Sistrum has deservedly established a great reputation since its inception. Any advice for aspiring label-owners?
My only advice is to try and stand out some kind of way because today’s market is flooded with labels. There are too many labels and you can easily get lost in the shuffle no matter how good your music is.

Pour ce nouveau rendez vous nous sommes ravis d’accueillir un des secrets les mieux gardés de Détroit, PATRICE SCOTT, pour un voyage sonore teinté d’une techno des plus soulful. Le tastermaker et patron du label Sistrum Recordings nous fera l’honneur d’étendre ses talents hors pairs derrière le booth du Bleury Bar À Vinyle pour un set tout aussi enveloppant que captivant.

Récemment signé sur Sistrum Recordings mais également fier représentant de la techno et deep-house montréalaise, TAZZ sera des nôtres. Signé à deux reprises sur le label Underground Quality de Jus-Ed, chez New Kanada ou encore Tsuba Records. En 2015, TAZZ s’est vu confier la sortie du dernier EP de Sistrum Recordings « Orchestral Dimentions » sous son nouveau projet 12 TO 30 monté avec ses acolytes Giovanni Randisi et Bacanito.

PATRICE SCOTT 

Patrice Scott a été influencé dès le plus jeune âge par des artistes de sa ville natale tel que Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, The Electrifying Mojo ou Juan Atkins. Écoutant assidument la station locale WBMX et WGCI basées à Chicago il découvre des artistes tels que Chip E, Farley Jackmaster Funk et Larry Heard. Ces noms auront plus tard une grande place dans l’élaboration de sa direction musicale. Dès l’achat de ses premières platines, Patrice Scott parfait ses talents de DJ et joue rapidement aux côtés de légendes telles que Ken Collier ou Jeff Mills et devient le résident du club Amsterdam Lounge. Parallèlement, il commence la production à travers des remix composés à l’aide de deux magnétophones cassettes, une boite à rythmes et ses platines. Rapidement, il met toute son énergie dans la production et fonde son label Sistrum Recordings.

La première sortie sur Sistrum, « Atmospheric Emotions » en 2006 reçoit de nombreuses critiques élogieuses et le support d’artiste comme Levon Vincent, Efdemin, DJ Fader, Lawrence, Fred P et beaucoup d’autres. Les EP s’enchainent depuis et le label a accueilli de prestigieuses signatures telles que Marco Zenker, Specter, XDB, Keith Worthy ainsi que ses propres productions. Avec Sistrum, P. Scott reste fidèle à ses valeurs : « ne pas avoir peur d’être différent ! » Et continue à créer avec le cœur. La recette semble marcher car voilà 30 ans que Patrice Scott est actif sur la scène musicale et a sorti l’année dernière son album « Euphonium ».

La Fleur est une de ces jeunes DJ proactives qui diffuse son parfum partout où elle pose son diamant. Résidente du célèbre Watergate de Berlin et enfant de la génération Y, elle fait partie de cette nouvelle vague d’acteur de la scène musicale et culturelle qui ose se mettre en danger quotidiennement pour poursuivre leurs rêves. Électrons libres et pousses ultra productives déconstruisant les schémas classiques désuets pour créer leurs propres et uniques chemins de vie. La fleur, comme un élément de l’écosystème qui survit par lui même, puisant dans les moindres ressources qui permettent son rayonnement et donnent un véritable sens à son existence. La Fleur, pour une musique qui cristallise cette nouvelle génération d’hommes et de femmes qui décident de défier les systèmes en place. S’inspirant de ses prédécesseurs et puisant dans des références parfois aux antipodes de la musique électronique, les productions de la suédoise cultivent la délicatesse et la sensualité tout en remuant nos sens et nos perceptions, jouant avec les distorsions et les tempos comme un voyage à travers le temps et les peuples.

C’est dans le cadre d’un After-Party de son set à l’Igloofest que La Fleur viendra poser ses racines. En attendant son set envoutant, nous lui ouvrons nos pages pour une interview made in Bolting Bits.

Après une session 2015 fortes en découvertes, Le Bleury et Bolting Bits font leur rentrée 2016 et préparent le terrain d’une année riche en projets et en surprises. Et quoi de mieux pour démarrer les hostilités qu’une collaboration avec les 10 ans de l’Igloofest ? Que vos corps se préparent à plonger dans les profondeurs de la deep house coloré d’Otis avant de se laissez emporter jusqu’au bout du beat par les vagues sonores envoutante de la sublime « La Fleur ».

– LA FLEUR –

Cette jeune autodidacte suédoise est devenu en un rien de temps l’une des résidente les plus respecté du mythique Watergate de Berlin. Délaissant une carrière de pharmacienne deux ans après ses études, elle décide de se consacrer a 100% à sa passion musicale en 2004 et démarre rapidement des résidences à Stockholm avant d’autoproduire son premier EP Flowerhead en 2010. Très vite, son attraction pour la capitale européenne de l’électro et ses désirs de maturation la pousse à quitter la suède pour débarquer les platines à Berlin. Elle y prend la résidence tant convoitée du Watergate tout en se payant le luxe de fouler de nombreuses fois les platines du Berghain. Après la sortie remarquée de son dernier EP Make a move, La Fleur viendra poser sa douceur explosive à Montréal. L’unique occasion de venir découvrir la fleur délicate qui vous piquera délicatement les trippes. Une œuvre d’art qui prend possession des ondes.

Tombé dans la musique dès le plus jeune âge. Attiré par le dub et la deep house, sa manie à mélanger les sonorités sont toujours un moteur de révolution de ses sets. Caméléon dans l’âme, nul ne sait jamais où ses prochaines découvertes le porteront. Une chose est sur, ses performances enrichissent toujours un peu plus son style de prédilection et chamboule notre vision de la deep. Après avoir investis le Stereo ou Le Salon Daome c’est aujourd’hui dans notre mythique Bleury qu’Otis pourra partager sa folie créatrice en toute intimité.

BORROWED IDENTITY [QUINTESSENTIALS / MISTRESS]
GUILTY

Né en Roumanie et basé en Allemagne, Borrowed Identity a su se tailler une solide réputation au cours de ces dernières années. Influence musicale riche, il s’emploie à osciller entre musique ethnique, disco, jazz, house, techno ou hip-hop. Ayant joué dans la plupart des clubs dans le monde, il sait piquer l’attention de son public quel que soit le lieu et le moment. Il fond alors styles et intensités tel un caméléon se fondant au décor.

Inspiré par des producteurs tels que Larry Levan, DJ Harvey, Moodymann à Larry Heard ou encore Robert Hood, Borrowed Identity signe sur des labels tout aussi prestigieux que variés : Quintessentials, Ostgut Ton, Home Taping, Circus Company, Homesick, ou encore Mistress. Sa musique est profonde, pleine de musicalité et de samples très « soul » judicieusement utilisés. Mr G le considère d’ailleurs comme « un des leaders de la nouvelle école ». Sa musique est jouée par les plus grands: Laurent Garnier, Mike Huckaby, Detroit Swindle, Len Faki, Move D, KiNK ou encore DVS1 pour ne citer que.

On pourra bien évidemment compter sur le talent de Kris Guilty pour garder la barre haute avec sa justesse inébranlable. Pour ceux qui ne le connaissent pas encore : Guilty est un DJ/producteur originaire de Montréal. Au fil des ans, ce passionné de musique en tout genre s’est construit une collection de vinyls impressionnante. Mélomane aguerri, souvent discret, impressionne à chaque fois qu’il se hisse aux platines. Ses passages en club sont souvent sporadiques et toujours très attendus !
