Ben Gomori debuts on House Of Disco Records with a meaty package of acid-laced cuts and some huge remixes. ‘7AM At Wintergarten’ was inspired by his sprawling late-night / early-morning sets at the legendary Wintergarten room at Berlin’s Sisyphos, and was debuted there to great reactions. Panoramabar resident Massimiliano Pagliara completes the local link with his excellent heads-down, stomping remix.

‘Mars Joint’ is a tribute of sorts to one of Gomori’s heroes, Kerri Chandler, and combines one of his classic patches with gentle acid licks and whirring feedback FX. Jordan Nocturne crushes his Italo-electro remix—succinct but hugely effective—while promising Irish newcomer SHEE goes for a tough but deep atmospheric interpretation.

Inspired by his decision to learn the piano during lockdown, ‘What Is Jazz?’ EP on Monologues Records sees Ben Gomori return to his G. Markus moniker and the project’s roots in the deeper end of deep house. Largely created over one quarantine-fuelled Bank Holiday weekend of stifling captivity, the EP focuses around dainty leitmotifs, with a melancholic mood running throughout.

From the bossa nova beats and double bass glissandos of the title track to the hazy chords of ‘Barbie Nine Jobs’ (the direct translation of the Lithuanian for ‘jack of all trades’ and presumably implying ‘master of none’) and the warm ivory twinkles of ‘Purple Saturn Day’, the release continues a long-running tradition of house producers paying homage to its distant forefather.

‘Aurorae’ is a spacious, chugging synth odyssey filled with hazy sounds and soaring leads, with a remix from label boss Ben Gomori adding some afro rhythms and rolling Ron Trent-inspired energy. ‘Happy Valleys’ invokes blissful dreamhouse, while ‘Late-Night Jazz Bar (Smoke & Mirrors)’ is an exceptionally beautiful slice of introspective deeper-than-deep contemplation.

The sixth edition of the Sterns Edits series sees label head Ben Gomori and rising star Tom Jay tackle two big tracks by Malian singer Nahawa Doumbia.

Hailing from the Wassoulou region of Mali — which has produced many other stars, not least Oumou Sangaré — Nahawa has been a significant force since the late 1980s, when Sterns Africa first combined and released the Syllart-produced albums ‘Didadi’ and ‘Nyama Toutou’. It is from these albums that Gomori has picked two of the biggest, most joyous tracks for he and Jay to work on.

‘Sigi Sele’ soars with its rousing horn section and Doumbia’s impassioned vocal, and makes for excellent dancefloor material. Gomori’s main edit keeps the majority of the original intact, chunking it up gently in all the necessary places. His Disco Dub edit hones in on the guitars and trumpets for something more groove-oriented. Tom Jay’s rework of ‘Djina Mousso’ is similarly respectful, coaxing it
onto the contemporary house music dancefloor with the minimum of fuss or excess. Pre-order now!

OOSSHA continues on her path with a second release by G. Markus titled Warning! OOSSHA is an outlet for music that’s dedicated to house and alternative styles while always maintaining fierce and unique ingredients that conquer hearts.

UK producer Ben Gomori revisits his G. Markus alter ego for an EP that pays tribute to the jungle and drum & bass soundtrack of his formative years. The EP takes its name from one of the UK’s longest-running (still running!) drum & bass parties, Cambridge’s Warning!, which was one of his stomping grounds as a teenager.

The track that we’re premiering today, “Dreemscape ’93,” is the lead song from the EP. It’s a vibey piece that instantly recalls old school house tracks with its use of a contagious groove, filtered elements and a vocal sample taken from a recording of legendary UK rave’s Dreamscape’s 1993 NYE party — the first rave tape Gomori ever heard, played to him by his older brother. On the same side we find queniv turning B side track ‘The Sleepless Moon’ into his unique blend of breakbeat elements and twisted ambient layers.

On the fiipside, Roger Gerressen turns “Dreemscape 93” into his own interpretation of lo-fi filtered chord sweetness and combining it with hypnotising Rhodes patterns. B2 makes space for the original “The Sleepless Moon” which is all about the rhythms. Intricate MIDI programming triggers acoustic drum samples that intertwine with twinkling ear candy and a jungle break before breaking up the patterns with an infectious bassline.

Bolting Bits favorite Ben Gomori, the label head of Sterns Edits, is once again coming out with a new edition of his official Afro Edit series where he and others produce house-friendly versions of some of the best African-influenced music from around the world. For his 5th edition, Mr. Gomori has decided to rework the talented band Yabba Funk, who are a group of musicians and friends that formed together in 2006 in Brixton. Throughout their time together, they have released two albums with Sterns Music and have performed numerous acclaimed live shows — including support slots for Seun Kuti and Ebo Taylor.

This EP includes an edit and dub from Mr. Gomori himself of Yaaba Funk’s track “Hwe Hwe Mu Na Yi Wompena.” However, the tune we are spotlighting today comes from Danvers, one half of the duo Kassian, who has been tearing it up on his own on labels such as Curve Records, Boogie Cafe, and Ben’s other imprint Monologues. In his latest effort, Danvers takes the infectious energy of “Oman Foa” into a triumphant new direction, with one of his broken beat rhythms at its core — recalling his big summer track ‘Aye Ata’ which received heavy support from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Midland. With a succinct arrangement that lets the joyous brass and powerfully harmonized vocals shine potently, it’s feel-good party music that works wonders when deployed at the right place and time.

Ben Gomori, label head of Monologues Records and Sterns Edits, might be one of the busiest men in the industry today. When he’s not providing us with the freshest dance music through his two labels, Ben can be seen spending his “leisurely” time hosting podcasts, radio shows, and video series like Turned On, Monologues and RecordReplay. If that wasn’t enough, Ben puts on club night fundraisers for Help Refugees and the highly esteemed album listening sessions Pitchblack Playback. We honestly do not know where the man finds the time, but he does.

Given his absurd work rate, we were not surprised to learn back in July that Ben Gomori also produces under the previously anonymous moniker G. Markus. Mr. Gomori’s reasoning for starting the project was “[…] to make deeper, freakier, trackier stuff than I was known for under my own name. It was a breath of fresh air starting from a blank canvas and sending music to labels anonymously with no preconceptions, having no social media and so on.”

Whether he’s releasing music under his own name or G. Markus, one can argue that Ben has a knack for making edits that rivals any of his contemporaries today. And this unique skill is on full display throughout his latest track titled “Red E,” in which he takes on an 80’s classic. Using the infectious vocal sample as a centerpiece, Ben chooses to pair it with an equally catchy assortment of lively piano house melodies and cheeky synths that are reminiscent of greats like Kerri Chandler.
