Sune’s newest EP ‘Extraordinaire’ will drop on Apparel Music and they are incredibly happy to finally be able to welcome such a talented artist to their family! The title itself perfectly depicts the sensations that this amazingly classy and groovy record gives at the first listening and the artistic awareness that the Swedish producer brings in all his four glorious tracks.

From the title track on he displays an enormous array of talent and gently skates between the genres, making this digital release the best possible manifesto of his musical capabilities and showing to the world his production skills and sonic inclinations: Jazzy, Deep, Disco, Soul…to name a few. Extraordinaire EP will be out on the 6th of August 2021.

They say trust is important in any relationship and that’s something we’ve got in spades for Giuseppe D’Alessandro and his Apparel Music crew. For years, these guys have been releasing pumped-up house, always drizzled with jazz and we believe in everything they’re gifting! Be it slapped baselines, sharp sax or squelchy keyboard, Apparel know a dance tune when they hear one.

The next delicious record from their corner, comes all the way from the tiny island of Malta. Not only that, its creator is only nineteen! With a playful name (Edd) comes playful tracks. A 4-tracker that’s bubbling over with energy. Cheekily, the EP and lead single are titled ‘Fock Quarantine’, an obvious jab at being cooped up in the house all day. For a 19-year-old kid who writes heat like this, lockdown would be superbly frustrating. Thus, Edd’s venting in the only way he knows how.

Our eyes are set firmly on the closer ‘Last Saturday’. Made up of unrelenting Mall Grab-esque snares, a damn fine kick and droning pads, this one’s a lo-fi lovers oasis in the desert. I don’t know about last Saturday but I’m looking forward to future Saturdays where I can oscillate in the dark to more of what Edd’s serving up. Keep it locked on this youngster!

Choosing every track carefully, Goddard and Apparel Music have come together to release a record that is as representative of the Manchester artist’s talent as possible. The EP, entitled “Signals” is a four track affair. First up is ‘Fourth Dimension’ featuring the ever-talented Harry Wolfman, a combination of two of the underground’s finest means it’s a must listen.

Our premiere today is the title track and the A2, ‘Signals’. A moody number at its heart, it showcases Goddard’s synth work and key noodling. The percussion stands out here too, as it evolves from shuffling hats to more offbeat rhythms as the track makes its upwards climb towards its summit.

The rest of the record is no slouch as ‘Tromso’ and its remix by Aussie Berliner Jad & The occupy the B side. We suggest you get your hands on this record as its out now!

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their inception, our friends at Apparel Music are putting together a special release for their fans that’s set to come out on the 25th of this month. It features an EP from Dublin beatsmith LPM, which includes two new originals Mirage and Jazz Thing with remixes by Mangabey and their label head Giuseppe D’Alessandro (better known as Kisk). Staying true to the sounds they have developed over the years, this record embodies Apparel Music’s signature assortment of jazz, funk, and house that their catalog is known for.
[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/premiere-lpm-jazz-thing-kisk-remix” /]
Jazz heads will appreciate Giusepp’s take on LPM’s tune Jazz Things. Although there is plenty to like within the original, the Italian manages to take the song into an even jazzier direction – stripping out the low and high-end percussive notes while lowering its tempo as a way to give its sultry melodies more time and space to play out in the forefront of the track. These subtle alterations leave Jazz Things sounding more subdued and open-ended than before, making the listener feel as if they’ve just walked in on a late-night, jam session in a smokey basement of some jazz lounge. This is in stark contrast to the rest of the EP, which is more suited to be played out on an energetic dancefloor rather than the comfort from your home studio.

Make sure to join Apparel Music in celebrating their 10 year anniversary by pre-ordering your copy of Mirage right here!

Most of our readers have probably heard of the anonymous collective known as Apparel Wax. If you can’t recall their name, we know for a fact that you’ve heard the lead track from the label’s phenomenal 2017 debut “001A1” that rose to the top of Juno’s deep house best sellers.

[soundcloud url= “https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/apparel-wax-002a1” /]

Although the title doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, the song’s opening seconds are one of the most memorable and satisfying moments of dance music we’ve been lucky enough to experience last year. We loved it so much we asked the label’s curator Giuseppe D’Alessandro to do an interview and mix for us a few months back. we suggest you read it to get a better understanding of their history and why the label’s contributors are anonymous. Hint: IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC!

In their follow-up record, Apparel Wax have once again employed the work of ghost producers to come up with a record simply titled “002.” Similar to the first, this release contains a mixture of four-tracks that fall on different spectrums of the disco-jazz-funk plane – a real taste-tester you can say. We were lucky enough to get our hands on the A1 of the release, and it’s quite the thumper.

Featuring moody vocals and an assortment of looped guitar licks, “002A1” relies heavily on a throbbing bassline to carry the listener and their feet throughout its entirety. However, we would say the real gem of the tune lies within the horns that come in around the 3 minute-mark. Once those bad boys come to the forefront, “002A1” begins to exude a vibe that’s more romantic and care-free than what the yearning vocals signify at its start. Day-time disco enthusiasts and DJs alike are sure to love this track for it’s funky, yet soothing aesthetic.

The record is out on 12″ today, buy it here.

His first release on Apparel comes here in the form of the How I Feel EP, slotting in as #8 of Apparel’s release APLTD run. It’s a three-tracker displaying a nice variety, from the Luvless-like grand piano riffing of “GLQ” to the pulsating 90’s house stabs of “You Don’t Stop”.

Your Bolting Bits premiere comes via the title track, which sits comfy on the A-side. It’s a heady, jazzy synth jam topped off by delicate high hats, quirky percussion and thoughtful vocal samples. “How I Feel” is reminiscent of the tasty midtempo house jams cranked out by labels like Big Bait in recent days past, via the masterful Glenn Astro and Italian gear nerd Kian T. A nice compliment to the other two tracks and a highly playable track for fans of more jazz-leaning and hazy house work. The EP should be out real real soon at your favorite dealer.

After seven years in the game and a number of various side projects, Apparel Music has recently announced another venture. Apparel Wax, the newest addition to curator Giuseppe D’Alessandro aka KiSk’s lineup is one strictly for the heads with the focus being solely on the music. The artists of each release will not be revealed but will rather all be under the collective umbrella of the Apparel Wax brand. The direction of the music will be largely influenced by disco, funk and jazz. It seems that the new catalogue is already catching on as the first release is currently sitting at number 5 on the deep house best sellers list on Juno.

We were of course naturally quite curious to find out some more details about the new project and managed to get some further insight from Giuseppe himself, as well as a fresh mix with current and forthcoming Apparel Wax gems. Read the full interview below!

INTERVIEW

Apparel Music started off releasing vinyl then switched to digital only. Now with Apparel Wax you’re bringing back 12″ releases. Could you give us some insight as to why that is?
Apparel Music was born as a training ground, a project that wasn’t meant to be for “club use only” or just for DJ’s and vinyl buyers. Personally I’ve always been a kind of music collector without format limitations. On the contrary, I set myself free since the very beginning trying to focus more on the coherence and versatility of my path. I don’t think that vinyl always means quality especially if you look at the numerous ways quality music propagated in the recent past, for instance: the beginning of the mix/podcast culture created new targets, different type of listeners. Then living in a city like Milan, where so many arts fuse together, I had the chance to collaborate with directors and production houses that asked me to use Apparel Music’s catalogue for TV ads (Datch, Oxfam, Beast, Rolling Stone), films (Tutti i Rumori Del Mare), fashion movies (Misocromia) and documentaries; so, you know, music can go wherever it wants to and vinyl is just one possibility.

When did the concept for Apparel Wax come about? Have you been working on it for a long time?
After many years researching and opening many different catalogues (APL, APC, APLTD, APD, APDSPECIAL, APDEXTRA, APKISK, APLMINI) I ended up asking myself what could I do in order to put the main focus on music, just music, without having to fall into categorization which, at the end of the day, is way too predictable. Apparel Wax collective was born from this necessity!
It took me about a year to develop the concept, set up all the details and eventually share it with the industry insiders for the final launch.

Apparel Music is always somewhat jazz-focused. If you were to describe the sound of this new direction, what would it be?
Apparel Music’s idea is to put together “the black and the white”, the internationally recognized artists with the new talents: different souls but same aptitude playing on the same vinyl in a jazzy way. Jazzy for me is not just the interaction between jazz and electronic music, it is the outcome of this union. It’s a state of mind which helps to meet each other half way and hit the charts, being free from preconception.

How would you say Apparel’s sound has evolved since the first releases 7 years ago?
Apparel grew up under many aspects, not just the sound, and I hope its potential will keep increasing. Let me talk for a minute about the art-side which is functional to the question: the image of the label which I think is one of the most important things has all been a Work In Progress!
It started off from the pencil of an Italian artist (Luca Beolchi) who created the covers for the first 2 years, then little by little I managed to develop my own world staying in line with the past; for the 4th release of APLTD catalogue I created an art contest and the winning artwork was chosen for the cover. Within the first 300 released copies we put a little catalogue with all the artworks participants. Sound-wise it’s been the same research: I spent the first years looking for the perfect sound and eventually choosing Stefan Eichinger (aka LOPAZZ) and his studio as our designated exclusive mastering engineer.

Would you say that Apparel Wax is a completely new project or is it an extension of what Apparel Music stands for? Will Apparel Music be continuing alongside Apparel Wax?
After many years, Apparel Music risked not being understood completely, as not everyone sees the number of the releases and loyally follows the development of the sound, that’s why I’ve been working on possible alternatives for a few years.
So I decided to divide the Apparel world in three ways:
Apparel Tronic, the new sub-label started in February 2017 with Ludovico Schilling (aka SCHiLLiNG . A line dedicated to electronic music in a wider way; a kind of music expressed by experimentation and that could also be played live.
Apparel Music Limited that will keep delivering jazzy classics like last summer’s T.U.R.F. EP and Loure’s EP which will be released in 2018.
Apparel Wax, which aims to group anonymous artists with a more fresh and happy sound, mainly influenced by disco, funk and obviously jazz.

You have chosen not to reveal the artists behind the releases, is this because you’d rather let the music do the talking?
Exactly. I believe that this form would allow the audience to focus on the music without being conditioned by the name. It is ambitious but far more satisfying for me, plus, I see it having a really good impact on the market.

Even though you can’t reveal the artists, could you maybe give us a hint as to whether or not some of these artists have released on Apparel Music before?
I prefer not to reveal the enigma behind the collective.
Let’s say it’s been a good way for me to keep myself updated on new acts but I also drew from the contacts that I developed throughout the years. Anyway you’ll probably discover yourselves who’s involved, due to the upcoming showcases.
The idea is also to give any event organizer the chance to get the nearest Apparel Wax member (who will play under the name of Apparel Wax) depending on where the gig is. It’s a collective, in every way!

The first release is out now on wax with the digital release to follow. Will we be seeing regular releases from Apparel Wax or will you take it slow and make sure you find the right music, that is if you don’t have a whole bunch lined up already?
I’m currently working on APLWAX002 and I really hope it will be in stores before the end of 2017. I won’t give myself any deadline as I’ve always been respectful about each artist’s production time, I don’t think putting pressure is the way. Let’s say I’m planning to release a couple each year.

Finally, can you give a bit of insight into the mix you’ve recorded for us? Are there many unreleased APLWAX gems in there?
Manman, of course i don’t know! :))

The release is also out digitally on Traxsource.

Série Limitée (soundcloud) is a fine London based label formed in 2013. They have previously showcased music from the likes of Steve Frisco, Monsieur Cedric, Anaxander, and Panthera Krause. Vinyl only releases coming in the form of VA 4 trackers are their staple and today we’re happy to announce the 10th instalment in the series.

Kisk (soundcloud) is the alias of Giuseppe D’Alessandro, the Italian native responsible for the creation of the always reliable Apparel Music. He is also curator of the impeccable ‘Jazzy Hour Radio Show’ of which we are massive fans here at the BB HQ. There is more than a hint of jazz influence in his productions, always a good thing injecting that swing and unpredictability into house music. Today we premiere his B1 track ‘Clean Up Down’.

[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/kisk-clean-up-down” /]

It doesn’t take long for this one to get down to business, light and loose ride hats dance their way over warm chords as the track’s percussion builds nicely. Some lovely ethereal strings come to the fore during a small break and that’s also when the Jazz flute hits, HEY AQUALUNG!! The track doesn’t dwell on one particular motif for too long, evolving and changing but still maintaining it’s charm. The solo jazz flute is the highlight of this laid back rolling groove. We defy anyone to hear a jazz flute and not instantly feel a bit better about things!

The EP on the whole is a well rounded affair, catering for a wide-ranging spectrum of tastes and will certainly be in our baskets come release day which is on or around 8th September. You can pre-order via Juno, Deejay & Redeye.

Today’s premiere brings us to Milan, Italy where Giuseppe D’Alessandro, aka Kisk, founded Apparel Music in 2009. A record label that has been around for a while and has good rapport among many of the scenes tastemakers, Apparel Music has, like any label or artist, developed its sound over time. One element that many of the producers who release on the imprint turn to is jazz, which is the cornerstone that the label has been founded on. They state that “jazz brings a more human dynamic” to electronic music, and we wholeheartedly agree. Over the years, we’ve been introduced to many great artists through Apparel’s catalogue and that trend continues today.

[soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/boltingbits/turf-east-side-harmony” /]

T.U.R.F. (soundcloud) are next up on the docket with a pair of tracks curated for the limited catalogue. Though we don’t know much about them just yet, these three Utrecht, Netherlands-based friends have immediately caught our ear. They promise to “create a sound that is as varied as the records we draw inspiration from” and we’re hoping they stick to their word.

The trio’s debut comes in the form of a two track EP entitled “Moonlighting” and our premiere today is the first cut, ‘East Side Harmony‘. A sampled jazzy piano melody is underpinned by moody chords and further held up by a punchy bass line that’s just tempting those feet to move. There’s a real sense of progression to the tune as various percussion is introduced and taken away, while the chords and keys are meticulously filtered. Curtis Mayfield imparts some wisdom about the underground in a short break just as the track really hits its peak with crisp shuffling hats and a muted jazzy sax, before giving way to the final stripped back, groovy portion. Combining jazzy elements with a dance floor ready groove, this one is sure to do some damage on the dance floor this summer.
