Sune – That Familiar Feel [Live Ones]

Malmö-bred party boy Sune is known best for his tendency towards dusty drum kits and jovial, sun-kissed samples and chords. His latest EP, on London label Live Ones continues this aesthetic. Mimosa Kuriosa packs together five tracks of both sample-driven and hardware based jams.

While the A1 satiates the cheeky disco edit crowd by flipping a certain Shalamar favorite, A2 and B1 sit nicely into the chirpy and smooth midtempo vibe that Sune slings so well. In the latter, we have our premiere. “That Familiar Feel” is indeed familiar. The producer’s trademark snappy drum programming starts things off, coupled with a filtered bassline. As the lowpass is lifted, the sample reveals playful, jazzy rhodes action and a seductive brass section. It’s a swingy affair that will certainly please fans of the Swedish producer’s sound. The rest of the B-Side, meanwhile, sees Sune exploring more live instrumentation in his production, but reaching the same bright and peaceful moods.

The EP is out now on 12″ vinyl and available to cop here.
