PREMIERE : Commando – Deep88 [ASCII Records]

deep88 - the jam

Since the beginning of the decade, Italian producer Deep88 (here) has been steadily releasing quality house music almost exclusively on his own labels Zomarec, 12Records and Juice Records US. He averages around four releases a year, and 2016 saw the release of two Deep88 LPs – The Black Album and I Have to Buy Another Mixer. 2017 shows no signs of Deep88 slowing down, with a compilation and an EP out already, with more on the way. Quality does not succumb to quantity however, as exemplified by his latest effort, ‘The Jam’ EP.

We have the privilege of showcasing the EP’s first track, ‘Commando’, for our latest premiere – a hazy cut of synth strings, 707 shuffles and melancholia. All the more impressive, the tune was recorded in a single take, hence the title of the EP, whose other tracks boast the same analogue heavy vintage sound. Equally capable in live sets as he is as a DJ, Deep88 and his labels deserve your attention, and if you’re not familiar already, ‘Commando’ is a great place to start. The release marks the second outing for Ascii Records courtesy of Deep88 – following his ‘Berlinaric EP’ from 2015, and ‘The Jam’ shows him spearheading yet another label. Equally capable in live sets as he is as a DJ, Deep88 and his labels deserve your attention, and if you’re not familiar already, ‘Commando’ is a great place to start. The Jam EP will be available at most record shops very soon – enjoy our premiere until then.
