PREMIERE : Forte – Dancer [ØEN REC.]

Joining the bundle of vinyl record labels and producers in Denmark currently making some serious noise is ØEN REC. Unlike most of their counterparts, they are based in the capital, Copenhagen, as opposed to the smaller Aarhus, which boasts the likes of Central aka Palta and his Help Recordings, DJ Sports, C.K.Manmade Deejay and the rest of the Regelbau crew. Initially starting off as a cassette label, as many others have done before them, it seems that ØEN believe the time is ripe to jump into the wax game. For their seventh release they’ve invited Asger Bruun Hansen aka Forte (soundcloud), also a member of the Aarhus Regelbau collective, to inaugurate their foray into the world of plastic discs.

The four track EP is entitled “Away” and is as complete as it gets, with any of the four songs being able to stand up as a single on their own. From the ethereal, dreamy vibes of Indu and the mysterious yet playful ambiences on Night Bay on the A side, to closing piece Untamed with its slow burning, cosmic jungle feel. Our premiere and the B1 on the record, the aptly titled Dancer is the most peak-time-friendly of the bunch. Dubbier chords and trundling toms form the backbone of this stomper while an understated bassline and crisp rides propel it onwards into the break. Eerie chords gradually rise into the final climax as arpeggiated flute-like synths begin to dance harmoniously around the rest of the groove.

There is bound to be some serious fanfare around this record so don’t forget to pre-order your copy from Phonica Records.
